Six Degrees: We Share

More than a few bands have shared/swapped members or collaborated over time. Bands evolve and revolve all the time. Some band members have side projects but remain in their regular band. I’ve always been interested in following the trails of who went where and their successes.

In this Six Degrees post we are connecting the dots between Grand Funk Railroad and Chicago Transit Authority.

Grand Funk Railroad – More than one former member joined Bob Seger

“We’re an American Band”

Bob Seger – co-wrote an Eagles’ song with Glen Frey: “Heartache Tonight”

“Hollywood Nights”

Eagles – shared a manager with Steely Dan; Hotel California’s “They stab it with their steely knives, but they just can’t kill the beast” was a response to a Steely Dan lyric.

“Hotel California”

Steely Dan – had a lyric in “Everything You Did” that said: “Turn up the Eagles, the neighbors are listening.”

“Everything You Did”

Doobie Brothers – Formed by two former members of Steely Dan

“Black Water”

Chicago – Was joined by the Doobie Brothers, as well as The Beach Boys and Olivia Newton-John on “Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve” in 1974.

“Beginnings”
