Location, Location, Location

Today I am honored to be the Spotlight Dancer for Monday’s Music Moves Me. That means I got to pick the theme for the day :)  I thought that since we are just about to enter Summer officially, that I would pick something related to summer.

Summer is often a time for vacations. So my selected theme for the day is “Songs that have locations in the title”.

  • Beverly Hills
  • Allentown
  • Santa Monica
  • Kokomo
  • One Night In Bangkok
  • LA Woman
  • Instanbul (not Constanople)
  • All My Exes Live In Texas
  • Ventura Highway
  • London Bridge
  • China Grove
  • Amarillo By Morning
  • By The Time I Get To Phoenix
  • City of New Orleans
  • Night Train to Munich

Honorable Mention:
  • YYZ (the airport code for Toronto, Canada)

Do you have any special vacation spots that you like to visit? Any places that you’d like to go? What other songs with locations in the title can you think of?

Today’s post is part of the Monday’s Music Moves Me blog hop, hosted by X-Mas Dolly, and co-hosted by Callie of JAmerican Spice, Stacy of Stacy Uncorked and Cathy from Curious as a Cathy.  Be sure to stop by the hosts and visit the other participants as well.

  1. What a fun theme! I love it! My favs in your selections are #1 for sure: China Grove. I love that song! Love the Doobie Brothers period. And then I really like One Night in Bangkok. That is such a cool song, musically. It was nice to hear some America: that band brings back so many memories for me. I used to play it constantly when I was working at Waldenbooks in the mall. Over and over.

Was thinking about some other songs with locations in the titles and I thought of so many that I liked so I decided to join your bloghop today~ Working on my playlist post right now. This is a really fun theme Mary!

    1. Thanks, Michele!

So happy that you decided to join us today. There really are a lot of songs with locations, it makes me happy that there is not a lot of overlap in this theme.

  2. These were good ones, Mary. China Grove...LA Woman - memories of the 70's. One Night in Bangkok - a fave song, also. The musical it belonged to didn't succeed, I don't think, but the song sure did! City of New Orleans - that song makes me cry, along with By the Time I Get to Phoenix Alana ramblinwitham.blogspot.com

    1. Thanks, Alana!

I think I managed to hit a few emotions, and a few different genres with this theme. I think that's all part of the fun. So glad that you enjoyed the theme, and thanks for playing along with us.

  3. Contraire Mary, Congrats on being this week's Spotlight Dancer! You sure did rock down the house with your selections. You came up with an excellent theme. "Allentown" is an oldie I haven't heard in a long time. The Doobie Brothers are one of my favorite groups from the 70s, "China Grove" really rocks me! Glen Campbell has such a smooth voice. I think i I prefer his later recordings of "By The Time I Get To Phoenix" because his voice is even not only smooth but more mellow. You shared some fabulous familiar and new tunes today. Thanks for rocking with the 4M gangs each week, dearie! Have a summertastic day!!

    1. Thanks, Cathy!

I had so much fun with this theme. I had quite the list going and then decided I needed to narrow it down a bit (As usual, I got carried away!) Have a great summer!

  4. This was a great choice. I love the Beverly Hills song. My dad loved the place and as a result, my older sister's name is Beverly. Congrats on being the Spot Light Dancer!

I was surprised by how many songs that came to mind, and fun songs, at that! I know there are quite a few more out there, but I made a conscious effort to limit myself this week. Thanks for stopping by!

  6. Like I told my brother, there is just a sh*t-ton (pardon my French) of songs with destinations in the title. He had ten right off the top of his head. My uncle said we could probably do a quick ten of songs just from Ireland, there must be a thousand songs about New York and Chicago... we could do this the rest of the year and never get all of them...

    1. That was part of my reasoning for the theme. It's been great seeing all of the different songs that everyone has come up with. This was a lot of fun. I may use the idea again for one of the freebie weeks, perhaps.

  8. I don't know if that's lame, but I don't vacation in the summer. I just like hitting up all of the spots in Colorado that I can finally explore without being too cold and/or covered in snow.

And now I have Istanbul (not Constanople) stuck in my head. Total earworm.

    1. It's not lame at all. Think of it as taking many mini-vacations. (and don't forget to head north to check out Mt Rushmore - it's only a few hours away)

When I lived in Sun Valley, Idaho, I would spend my weekends exploring the mountains and lakes in the surrounding area. I called it my vacation from the vacation. Sometimes it's good to get away from the tourists. Plus it's generally a lot less expensive to stick close to home.
