M Songs - #4M

Time again for Monday’s Music Moves Me, otherwise known as #4M or M4, depending upon whom you are conversing with.  Today’s Theme is ‘songs that start with the first letter of your name’ There are like a gazillion songs out there that start with the letter M. As you know, I tend to get carried away, but I’m trying to show some restraint, and only showcase 10 of those songs.

Mony Mony

My Own Worst Enemy

My Girl

Mr Crowley

Me and Mrs Jones

Midnight Train to Georgia

Mercy

Monday, Monday

Mustang Sally

Mississippi Queen

For those that would prefer a playlist, you can find it HERE

What’s your favorite ‘M’ song?

Today’s post is part of the Monday’s Music Moves Me blog hop, hosted by X-Mas Dolly, and co-hosted by JAmerican Spice, Stacy Uncorked and Curious as a Cathy.  Be sure to stop by the hosts and visit the other participants.

  1. Mary,

It’s great seeing you on the dance floor with the 4M crew today. I’m digging your mewsic selections to start this new week off. Most tunes I know but you did introduce a few news one to me like "My Own Worst Enemy", "Mr. Crowley", "Me and Mrs. Jones", "Mercy", and "Mississippi Queen". I think of these I liked the first one listed the best. :)

Let me scat for now but I hope you join me with Calling Out Your Name Cathy Can We Dance. There’s an issue with my host server, so if you’re not able to access my site can then it may take 24-48 hrs. Would you be a love and let me know via email if you experience a problem. Have a rockin’ good week! Geez, I can’t believe it’s the last Monday in July!

    1. Hi Cathy!

It makes me happy that I was able to introduce you to some new tunes. I'll make it over to your place for a dance in a bit. I suspect that for the next month we may experience all sorts of electronic phenomena due to the upcoming solar eclipse.

  3. Great list of songs and I love Mustang Sally and would love having the car they feature in the song. I thought about joining in but if I have to pick songs that begin with the first letter of my name I have no, clue what songs they would be as my name begins with a G other than Georgia On My Mind.

    1. It only takes one song :) But here are a few others that I can think of:
      Ed Sheeran - Galway Girl
      Coolio - Gangsta's Paradise
      Rick Nelson - Garden Party
      Foo Fighters - Generator
Red Hot Chili Peppers - Give It Away
Miranda Lambert - Gunpowder and Lead

I'm sure there are more out there. Google is a great source when you draw a blank

M's are pretty easy to find songs for. Seriously, my list could have been much, much longer.

  7. Hey Miss MMMMMary! We're so lucky to have M's for our first letter. We had a serious shitload of songs to choose from! We had a few in common, which is no surprise, but you had some that I never thought of (like one of my all-time favorites Me and Mrs Jones. God, I love that song!) and some that are new to me (like Dave Matthews' Mercy and I didn't know that Billy Idol did a cover of Mony Mony: I liked it!).
I like this game. I'll have to challenge myself and come up with T songs (for my last name...).
    Great playlist Mary!
    Have an awesome week.

There were a gazillion! I counted ;) Last name songs would be a fun challenge as well. You should mention that to Marie, and we can all play along. I like the one I did on Thursday, where I spelled my name with music. That was a lot of fun as well. I think this Thursday, I'm going to return to a more serious minded post, but back to fun on Monday :)

I was introduced to Dave Matthews' Mercy by RockBand. One of my online friends used to make us play it all the time. I like the lyrics and the melody.

Mony Mony was originally done by Tommy James and the Shondelles, but Billy Idol was the one who gave it a more rock n' roll sound.

Looking forward to your next post :)

  8. I can't say I have a favorite. You showcased some amazing ones. I have fond memories of rocking out on the dance floor to 'Mony Mony' back in the eighties. My partner and I sure turned heads with our dirty dancing. ~grin~ Thank you for sharing!

  9. Funny thing, when "Me and Mrs. Jones" first came out, I detested it. But through the years, I've grown to love it. "Mony Mony" is wonderful whether it is Billy Idol or Tommy James and the Shondells (oh no, now I have an overwhelming urge to hear Crimson and Clover). And The Temptations! Another fave!

    1. I always find it interesting to see how our tastes in music evolve throughout the years. Sometimes it's a life long love affair with a song, other times, it's just a flash in the pan fling.

  10. This makes for a great A to Z theme. There is a profusion of "M" songs, but this early I'm not thinking of any.

    1. I haven't given any thought yet to a theme for 2018. I probably should get on that sooner rather than later. Goal: have all posts written by March. Ha! As if that would happen...
