It's All In A Name... Part Two #4M #BOTB Results

Time again for Monday’s Music Moves Me, otherwise known as #4M or M4, depending upon whom you are conversing with.  Today’s Theme is  a freebie, so I’m going to continue on with my ‘It's All In a Name’ series. This is part two of a three part series.

I'm going to post this a few hours early, as my 'boss' has decided she needs to take the entire day off to see two minutes of darkness. Pfft. whatever. Mo' money for me. I've seen the darkness before, but as she wasn't even born when that last eclipse happened -  she's experiencing the same emotions as a teenage virgin. I just hope she isn't disappointed when it only lasts two minutes or less.

Before we get started with today's post, let's go over the Battle of the Bands Results.

The battle was a cover of ‘The Boys Are Back In Town', with the contenders being Bon Jovi, The BusBoys, and Everclear.

There were just a couple of you that caught on to my 'oops'.  I was very tired when I put together the battle. I had to do some shuffling of posts in order to come up with a battle that fit in the Monday's Music Moves Me Theme of 'songs with boys names'.  Okay, so 'The Boys Are Back In Town' was a bit of a stretch to get it into the theme, but close enough. So... when I listened to the 'covers' I honestly thought 'Wow! The BusBoys are really putting their own spin on the tune' I listed a few times and thought the chorus was 'close enough' and besides, I like their sound.  Well, apparently, I was sleeping on the job, because a few of you pointed out that it wasn't even the same song! Same title, different lyrics. Ah well...  I still think they were pretty good contenders.  Next time - more caffeine will be on tap!

The final results:

The BusBoys with 8 votes
Everclear with 2 votes
Bon Jovi with 6 votes

Thank you everyone for taking the time to cast your vote! We'll have a new round of battles on September 14th, with new songs and new contenders.

Now onto today's regular post:

As you may recall, in part one of the series, we had songs with male names in the title. Part two will consist of songs with female names in the title.

There are very many (a gazillion and one - I counted!) songs with female names in the title. I've narrowed it down to just five.

Sara Smile - Hall & Oates

Annie's Song - John Denver

Jane - Jefferson Starship

Oh Sherrie - Steve Perry

The Adventures of Rain Dance Maggie - Red Hot Chili Peppers

What are some of your favorite songs that have female names in the titles?

Today’s post is part of the Monday’s Music Moves Me blog hop, hosted by X-Mas Dolly, and co-hosted by JAmerican Spice, Stacy Uncorked and Curious as a Cathy.  Be sure to stop by the hosts and visit the other participants.

  1. The Eclipse is a big event. I remember one when I was in high school that wasn't nearly as complete as the one in my area, tomorrow. You need to go enjoy it with her!

  2. As far as the eclipse I don't have glasses so I'll be just be seeing the light and dark of things.. that will be enough for me because I don't want to ruin my eyes. Now on to cool things your tunes have really rocked the house this morning & naturally my favorite is "Steve Perry" & I'd say my second favorite is Jefferson Starship! Thanks for the dance & you have definitely ROCKED THE HOUSE this morning. Thanks for the dance! BIG HUGS

I'm glad that you enjoyed the tunes. I'll either be out running around the lot in my golf cart or inside staying cool making phone calls and helping customers. Either way, I don't plan on looking at the sun - my eyes are bad enough as it is. Thanks for dropping by!

  3. Such an irony that the BusBoys won this Battle. I knew it was a different song than what Thin Lizzy originally recorded, but I figured it was along the "same title, different song" vein that many of us have done on occasion. I still think Bon Jovi was best.

I think that if we removed The BusBoys from the equation, then Bon Jovi would have definitely taken home the title.

  4. "Michelle" by The Beatles, "Jolene" by Dolly Parton, "Rosanna" by Toto, "Caldonia" by Fats Waller (covered by many, including Muddy Waters), "Oh! Carol" by Neil Sedaka, "Sherry" by The Four Seasons, "Daphne" by The Quintette du Hot Club de France (Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grappelli, basically)... you know me, get me started on this, I find it hard to stop...

    Good list!

I have the same problem. I tend to go overboard, but am learning to dial it back a bit. This was a fun exercise.

  6. Another fun entry....did you see that actor Sonny Landeth passed away last week,he played one of the bad guys Nick Nolte and Eddie Murphy were chasing in "48 Hours" the movie that featured that Bus Boys song?

  8. It's still strikes my funny bone that the BUS BOYS won this Battle while NOT singing the Thin Lizzy song. I wonder what Phil Lynott would think of his most famous song losing to some "other" Boys in town.

And just as a bit of useless trivia about me, I'll state that my all-time favorite Thin Lizzy song is [Link:) BAD REPUTATION. Now that is HARD Rock!!!

    1. Yeah, I'm still laughing about it too. Now, don't worry, I won't confuse this Bad Reputation with Joan Jett's!

    2. Wow!! I didn't know there was a Joan Jett BAD REPUTATION song. Immediately my mind said: "Bad Reputation BOTB Showdown: Thin Lizzy's Versus Joan Jett's".

So I went and listened to Joan Jett's original and... nah. Too bad. I really like the idea of it, but I think Joan would get slaughtered.

Then again, maybe it's just because I know and love Thin Lizzy's BAD REPUTATION so well. But I wouldn't be willing to chance it. To my ears, it sounds like a shutout in the making.

  9. We only had a partial eclipse here, so it wasn't any big deal, but the next one will be, apparently. Kind of cool to be plunged into darkness in the middle of the day. Loved your 'teenage virgin' quip. especially the part about it being over in two minutes. LMAO!

As for the BOTB results, it's a little embarrassing to find out I voted for a band singing a different song. Pass the caffeine!

I hadn't heard the Chili Peppers' song before. Catchy tune!

    1. Don't feel bad about voting for The Busboy. I fell for it hook, line and sinker as well. It wasn't until Stephen pointed it out to me.

The eclipse is a pretty cool thing to see, especially if you are in the path of totality. I mentioned earlier in my comments that I saw one in 78, but after fact checking, it was actually 1979 that I saw it. I guess we have another one coming up in 2024.

Rain Dance Maggie is one of my favorite Chili Peppers songs.

  10. I love that the BusBoys made it into your battle: that is a great song and I sure enjoyed their fun sound.
I love all your Girl Names songs, especially Sara Smile. So good! I wasn't familiar with the Red Hot Chili Peppers song but I just listened to it all the way through and really like it.

Hope you're having a good week Mary.

  11. Stopping by a bit late (delayed by my eclipse travels - so worth it though!) listening to a Red Hot Chili Peppers song I am not familiar with. Hard to dance with a laptop on my lap, though! Great choices, as always. Alana ramblinwitham.blogspot.com
