Two Steppin' Monday

I had originally thought I was going to write a tribute post for Dennis Edwards, lead singer of The Temptations. He passed away this past week. But my good friend, Michele, has posted a lovely tribute piece, and I’m going to send you to her post instead.

By the way.. If you haven’t already done so, now would be a GREAT time to cast your vote in the latest Battle of the Bands. Voting is open through Sunday, Feb 11 @6pm EST

Our suggested theme for Monday’s Music Moves Me is ‘Country Music’. I’ve been a bit torn about the direction I want to take this theme. Part of me wanted to just slap together a playlist, but part of me also wanted to bring the blog back to it’s roots and share background information on a specific artist.

After that, I was confronted with another decision - Do I choose an artist that most people know about or do I introduce someone new?  Well… I’ve always been a bit of a curious person, and I enjoy learning new things. And since, I’ve recently been trolling YouTube recommendations, I think I’ve found something worthy of sharing.

It’s a funny thing, YouTube.  I had clicked on a video of a specific artist, and you know those annoying ads? Well… this ad was a song from a different artist.  I rarely have the actual video up on my screen while listening to the music (because I’m all about the multi-task!) But this particular one had me jumping back to the screen to see who was singing - as it definitely was not the one I had clicked on.  Curiosity got the best of me. I typed in the search bar of the band playing in the ad, selected a video, and another ad popped up - this ad was for the original artist I was intending to listen to!  YouTube had gone full circle on me!

Okay, I’ve rambled enough. I best get the show on the road and get to steppin’ and introducin’ this  New-To-Me duo.  They may have been around for a few years, but in my defense - while I enjoy country music, it’s typically not my go-to music.

TJ and John Osborne grew up in Maryland. In the mid 2000’s they moved to Nashville, where they were given a writing and recording contract. In 2013, Brothers Osborne released their debut single. The song was a Top 40 Hit. In 2014, they released a second single and it also became a Top 40 Hit. Their third single was released and it became their first Top 10 Hit, reaching the #2 spot in 2016.

I’ve put together a playlist of their songs. Some are covers, but their originals are pretty good as well. Enjoy and have a Happy Monday!

  1. Dang Girl, you happened upon some awesome country boys here! The Brothers Osborne are really good! Right out of the gate with the first song, 14 seconds in and I"m diggin' the sound already. I like that one and Not My Fault. They have some decent music videos too. Stay a Little Longer is good. Those first three are their charting singles, right?

That T.J. has a hot voice. Yes ma'am, Mmm, Mmm... I like that kind of voice. And he sure does evoke ZZ Top, doesn't he? I don't if it's Billy Gibbons or Dusty Hill who he sounds like but it's close to whoever!

I've gone through the whole playlist and still listening and will definitely be coming back to listen to all the songs in their entirety. I could totally listen to these guys all day... or at least on a long ride in the truck... :)
    thanks for the introduction!

And thank you so much for mentioning my Dennis Edwards tribute post and linking to it! That was such a nice surprise and a really nice thing to do. Thank you! The Temptations are some good music too, huh?

I have an idea that I'm going to run past you. I'll message you about it...
I'm going to go finish watching This is Us now...
I'm in a great mood since the Eagles won but I have a feeling that the buzz is going to come down once I see the end of this episode. :(

    Excellent Country post, Mary!

  2. Hey Michele!

The first song, is their latest release, but the next couple are their charting singles. When I heard them the first time, I knew I had to jump back over to the screen to see who it was. It's rare to catch my attention like that. I'm thinking their La Grange would make a good battle one day.

They do have more songs on YouTube, so be sure to check them out.

Can't wait to hear your idea :)

  3. Mary,

Alana from 'Rambling in the AM' did a tribute on Edwards this morning. I know the Temptations but not the band members. How sad another mewsic great has passed. I will check out Michele's tribute in a bit.

I'm glad you shared something new with today's country mewsic theme. You'll soon learn that I did not go this route but I will in a few weeks. I enjoyed the Brothers Osborne sound. I would've never guessed they are in the country genre from listening to the first couple of tracks on your playlist. They have a great dance beat "Ain't My Fault" and while I thought I had not heard of this band, "Stay A Little Longer" sounds remotely familiar. I figured I probably was introduced to this group by way of Stacy Uncorked and after checking her site I did find that she's shared them in the past. The more I listen to their mewsic, I began hearing a country influence in their songs. Of course, I prefer the new country sound over what I grew up hearing. Thanks for sharing Brothers Osborne and for hitting the dance floor with me today, my friend!

    1. Yeah, these guys are not half bad. Myself, I prefer the older country musicians over the newer ones. I suppose it's most likely because I have memories and associations with the older stuff.

      Thanks for dropping by!

  7. I wasn't as impressed with Not My Fault, but Stay a Little Longer was one of the best country songs to come out in the past few years

    1. I thought the video for Not My Fault was funny, but they do have some pretty decent sounding songs. I like their new single, Shoot Me Straight. Thanks for dropping in!

  8. I'm not much of a country music fan, but I enjoy finding new music. Thank you for sharing! Oh, and I spend a lot of time watching Youtube over the television these days. I found this delightful boy band named Kropp Circle who are currently putting out music as Palaye Royale. See how I did that? ~grin~ Be well!

  9. Not being a big country fan, I clicked on LaGrange (since I am familiar with the ZZTop song) and played it for myself and my husband - I thought it was well done and so I went to "It Ain't My Fault" and enjoyed the political humor. I'll have to listen to more. This duo is a keeper! (and thank you, Cathy, for the shoutout!) Alana ramblinwitham.blogspot.com

    1. I grew up listening to old school Country music. I have a hard time liking the newer stuff. If I had to pick an all-time favorite genre, it would be classic rock, which is kind of crazy because my favorite band doesn't fit any of those genres. You can always check out my playlists, I wouldn't lead you astray.
