Book Review: Breaking News

I was asked to review Breaking News by G.G. Vandagriff.  The book is a fast-paced thriller that had my attention from start to finish.

The book starts with Paula James waking to the smell of fire, and the sound of a gunshot. She grabs her tiny dog and her go-bag and makes her way out of the house. When she realizes it’s her house that is on fire, she goes back in to find her dad. He has been shot in the head.  No time to waste, she takes off.

Paula is wanted for a crime she didn’t commit. She can’t go to the local authorities because the sheriff is crooked. She can’t go to the FBI, because she has learned they are dirty as well. What is she to do?  She does the only thing she can do - goes to her friend in a nearby state who happens to be an investigative reporter.  Together they take us on a roller-coaster of a ride trying to find out who is behind the crime.  Together they are dealing with drug lords, dirty cops, large corporations and shell companies.  Their investigating takes them all over the country - from Missouri to Chicago, Seattle to Las Vegas, and other places trying to solve this case.

There are layers of complications to the story. Paula learns that she has been in WITSEC since she was about 10 years old, but she has no idea why. Paula also has a medical condition that causes her body to shut down during moments of extreme stress. David, her investigative reporter friend, is someone that she has always had a crush on, but he is now engaged.

The story is very well written and I found that I did not want to put it down at all. Thankfully, it was a pretty quick read, but it was very satisfying. The characters were all well developed and you gain a sense of their personalities.

I really enjoyed this book and would definitely recommend it. I give it 5 out of 5 stars.

    1. It really was good. It's billed as a Romantic Suspense, but it's definitely more suspense than romance. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series.
