Lions and Tigers and Bears! Oh My! #4M

It’s that time again when the #4M peeps all gather together and post about the same theme. As the Official Guest Conductor this month, I was the one selected to choose the theme.  Today’s theme has evolved a bit from the original conception that I had.

The theme I chose for today is “Songs with Animals in the title”.  The theme was chosen some months ago.  My original idea was to call today’s post “The Dog Days of Summer”  and post songs with dogs in the title. But, shortly after I chose my theme, I did a Dog Fight Battle of the Bands, and from there, we now have the Ultimate Dog v Cat Battle of the Bands Tournament.  Now, I don’t want everyone to think I don’t know how to diversify - so I’ve changed my idea once again :)  And that, is how I arrived at today’s post.

We start off the playlist with Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz, then we have 3 Lions, 3 Tigers and 3 Bears followed up by a combo hit of all three!

  • Lion, Tigers, Bears, Oh My!
  • The Lion Sleeps Tonight - The Tokens
  • Gold Lion - Yeah Yeah Yeahs
  • Little Lion Man - Mumford and Sons
  • Eye of the Tiger - Survivor
  • Tiger In a Spotlight - Emerson Lake & Palmer
  • Tiger By The Tail - Rick Springfield
  • (Let Me Be Your) Teddy Bear - ZZ Top
  • Space Bear - Ace Frehley
  • Runnin’ Bear - Tom Jones
  • Lions, Tigers & Bears - Jazmine Sullivan

Am keeping this post relatively short so you can listen to the music in the background as you visit the other bloghoppers today.

Have a great day! And Enjoy!

  1. Mary,

This was a really fun theme. I'm delighted you came up with this one and it's one that could be used again down the line.

Well...I can't believe we picked the same song, "Running Bear". That's a crazy coincidence! I mean, when I stumbled upon it, I thought no one will think of this or think to use it and then here it is. :D At least, I can say great minds think alike, no? You have a funtastic playlist, a mixture of oldies (Lions, Tigers, Bears, Oh My!, The Lion Sleeps Tonight, & Eye of the Tiger)& new-to-me tunes.
Thanks for introduction to all the rest.

Have a boogietastic & blessed week, my friend!

    1. Hi Cathy!

That really is a crazy coincidence! I had a lot of fun with this theme and could probably do a few different variations, so I think it's one that can be revisited down the line.

      Thanks for stopping in!

  2. I haven't been blogging the past few weeks but this theme was too good to pass up. Love the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Those are some scary animals but neat tunes for sure.

I've had a lot of fun with this one as well. I'll be sure to check out your post to see what you have come up with for the theme.

  3. Dang Girl, this is a great playlist! A bunch of new-to-me songs and I like a whole bunch of them! I think I heard of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs before; their "Gold Lions" is a great song! I'll have to check more of their music out. The ELP jam was good and the keyboards were killer. Gorgeous tiger but it also made me a bit sad: I would bet that the tiger was stressed a bit and was likely tranquilized to keep him/her calm. I think I saw him/her get a little uptight when the keyboards kicked in. But that was back in the day, before there were all the restrictions and precautions taken on behalf of the animals put in place.
I forgot about Rick Springfield! That was a good song.
Kickass song by Ace Frehley: sounds a bit like Led Zeppelin.
And you have introduced me to a new ZZ Top song! I love it! Talk about swayin'. When is that from? What album? Good shit!

I giggled that both of us featured a Tom Jones song! hahaha
I so remember Tom Jones in his heydey. Women (my Mom's generation) were crazy for him! I think it was my aunt who went to a Tom Jones concert and women were throwing their panties up on the stage. Lol.

Mary, this was such an outstanding theme! Well you probably knew I would LOVE it, but I really enjoyed compiling a bunch of my favorite animal-oriented songs. So glad you came up with it. And I like your shift in direction: Lions and Tigers and Bears is a very cool way to go.
Loved the Wizard of Oz clip at the beginning too. So nostalgic!
The Lions, Tigers & Bears bookend songs is packaged so nicely. The final song is also new to me and I really like it. I'm listening to it again in my headphones. Great sound.
Thanks for all the introductions and for being such a cool Conductor! :)

See you in a few days...

    1. Hey Michele!

The ZZ Top song is actually a remake of Elvis Presley. I really like what they did with it. I learned about Yeah Yeah Yeahs playing RockBand, but havent really heard much of their music. Tom Jones is always fun!
The final song was a new to me song as well. But it made for such a great way to end the post I had to use it.

      Chat with you again soon!

  4. Great list, although I felt bad about the tiger in the ELP one. He looked scared.

Yeah... while it may have seemed cool at the time to use a tiger in their video, it really did not look very comfortable. Thanks for playing along with us today!

  8. Just sitting down once again to get caught up. It's been a long day! Love that you pick the original guys for Lion Sleeps tonight. All your tunes are awesome and Tom Jones doing Running Bear never saw that one before. Great job, fun theme! You have ROCKED THE HOUSE!

  10. So...by the way, this was such a fun theme. My local library has a Yeah Yeah Yeah CD that I've passed by for years - now I am going to give them a try. Ace Frehley and the Space Bear instrumental sounded like a mix of Led Zepplin and Edgar Winter - interesting. But my favorite of the songs I didn't know surprised me - the ZZ Top song, as they are not favorites of mine. Anyway, you gave your theme a wonderful spin - lions, tigers and bears, yes, oh my!

Still toying with a possible spin off for this coming Monday or doing something completely different. Guess I better figure it out soon :) Thanks for stopping by!
