#4M : Gordon Lightfoot

Today’s theme for #MondaysMusicMovesMe or #4M has been chosen by Stacy of Stacy Uncorked.  She has chosen all of the themes for the month of November.  Today her theme selection is “Free Choice”

For some reason, I have managed to listen to Gordon Lightfoot practically every day for the past few weeks.  This was not intentional on my part. I think it is the universe telling me I need to share his music with you guys here.

Gordon Lightfoot is a Canadian singer-songwriter who achieved international success in folk, folk-rock, and country music. He is credited with helping to define the folk-pop sound of the 1960s and 1970s. He is often referred to as Canada's greatest songwriter and is known internationally as a folk-rock legend.

Here are 5 Gordon Lightfoot songs for you to enjoy:

  • Sundown
  • If You Could Read My Mind
  • Early Morning Rain
  • Did She Mention My Name
  • The Wreck Of Edmund Fitzgerald

  1. Mary,

You can't go wrong with listening or sharing Gordon Lightfoot's mewsic. Two years ago in my Whatever happened to series I featured Gordon Lightfoot. I touched on most of the ones you highlighted today, but mostly mentioned a lot of his newer, unknown stuff to-me for my readers. When time allows you might want to check out my discoveries. Well...here we are at the end of another month and this year is winding down fast. I'm sure December will roll by quicker than a blink of an eye, too. Gordon's easy-going, mellow sound is purrfect after a busy Thanksgiving weekend. Have a pAwesome week, my friend and thanks for hitting the dance floor with the 4M gang! ;)

    1. Thanks, Cathy!

While I have a million ideas floating around in my head, sometimes these Free Choice days are tough! It doesn't help when the days fly by so quickly. We're practically into the next year now.

    1. You are welcome for the trip down memory lane. I would love to see him in concert one day, but as he is now 80 yrs old, I doubt that will happen. A girl can dream, right?

  3. My favorite is "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald." When I first heard it, I thought it was either about a fictional ship or that it happened back in the 1800's. It surprised me to find out it was relatively recently...

    1. I like that one as well as Sundown. Those are the two that I've been listening to the most lately. I like it when there are little surprises about songs.

  8. Gordon Lightfoot was instrumental in bringing the Canadian music scene to the forefront. He's much revered in these parts and still lives in Toronto. His 80th birthday was celebrated nationwide on Nov. 17 and he still does yearly concerts. Thanks for this treat, Mary! A favourite singer from way back.
