#4M : Unsung Songs

Today’s theme for #MondaysMusicMovesMe or #4M has been chosen by Stacy of Stacy Uncorked.  She has chosen all of the themes for the month of November.  Today her theme selection is “Free Choice”

I actually struggled with today’s topic.  I’m not quite sure why.  Maybe it’s the low temperatures that is causing my breakdown of concentration, or the fact that my gall bladder has been griping at me for the past three days.

I started a post honoring our veterans, but stopped when I remembered past posts that took an ugly turn in the comments from idiots who think my blog is their political platform.  I’m not feeling all that great and certainly not in the mood to deal with it again this year.

I took a little break from writing today’s post to try to come up with something good for the upcoming Battle of the Bands. Nothing seems to be ‘wow-ing’ me there either.

Yesterday, I joined in the Song Lyric Sunday as I do every week. This time, I was hoping something there would inspire me for today’s post.

Those who know me, know that I love spreadsheets. I don’t know why. I just do. One spreadsheet that I keep is a list of potential ideas for times like this that I need inspiration.

Somewhere between #SLS and my spreadsheet, I have found my inspiration for today’s post.

Here are 5 Songs without Lyrics for you to enjoy:

  • Pink Floyd - One Of These Days
  • Walter Murphy & the Big Apple Band - A Fifth Of Beethoven
  • David Bowie - Speed Of Life
  • Harold Faltermeyer - Axel F
  • Led Zeppelin - Moby Dick

Now… let’s see if I can’t come up with something good for Battle of the Bands :)  (And yes, I do have a spreadsheet of ideas for that as well) Be sure to stop by to see what I’ve come up with.

Today’s post is part of the Monday’s Music Moves Me blog hop, hosted by X-Mas Dolly, and co-hosted by JAmerican Spice, Stacy Uncorked, Curious as a Cathy. , and Ramblin with AM. Be sure to stop by the hosts and visit the other participants.  If you have a MUSIC* post, feel free to join in the fun! *sorry non-music posts are not permitted in this bloghop.

  2. Mary,

I think it's pAwesome how organized you are with your mewsic posts. I'm not a spreadsheet kind of gal but I ought to give it a try. It might whip me into shape with keeping things from laping as they so often do.

People are so stupid. I hate hearing that you've had issues in the past with paying tribute to our Veterans. I just go with the flow of things on my blog. It's my little space. I'm not intending to offend anyone but if they chose to be offended then I can't do anything about that but I'm not going to get bent out of shape because someone's ill comments. Don't let them get to ya, girlfriend! ;)

I remember when "A Fifth Of Beethoven" came out and it's been quite some time for me to hear, so this was great fun to listen to this morning. :) "Axel F" puts me in the mood to watch Beverly Hills Cop. I think that's kind of neat because one of my song features today is from that flick. You and I have been on a similar wave length lately, haven't we? I noticed you haven't linked up yet, so I'm gonna add you to the party! Have a boogietastic week, dearie!

    1. Thank you Cathy!

I made a mental note to add my link when my post went live, but I somehow completely forgot to follow through and do it. That makes 2 weeks in a row at this forgetfulness. Of course, I slept in a little bit this morning, but when I woke up, it was the first thing I remembered. Thank you for adding me.

We really have had some similar thoughts and music shares recently. They say great minds think alike.

I think I've got my BOTB post sorted for this week as well. Now I just need to put it together. It's going to be a bit of a departure from my usual.

I'll be around to the participants here shortly.

  3. Well, I totally agree with Cathy you are very organized with they type of music you like, but me if I like a song I'll play, buy, and put it in the CD rack for next time or bring it with in the car. hahahahaha Oh wait, and then I make up things like Monday's Music Moves Me and have everyone bring their favorites to the party at 4M's . Wow, is that lazy or what! hahahahahahaha Have a rockin' week my friend! Great tunes! hugs

    1. LOL I think you must have misunderstood. The organization is for putting together posts. When it comes to listening and buying, I'm as random as they come. My music collection is very eclectic ranging from the purity of Mormon Tabernacle Choir to the raw heavy Death Metal.

  4. I use Evernote for theme ideas. If you blog as much as we do (and I think you post just about every day), it's a lifesaver, isn't it?

IRS Records used to have an imprint called "No Speak" which was all instrumentals. Their sampler albums were called "Music Too Good For Words." I've always liked instrumental rock, sometimes in preference to songs with words. Great list here!

    1. I used to post every day, but started to burn out. Now the only time I post every day is April and October :) The rest of the time, it's 2 - 3 times per week. But yes, the keeping of theme ideas comes in handy.

There really are quite a few 'songs without words' out there. I might hang on to this theme idea and use it again sometime.

  8. I don't mind discussion, but it's sad to see folks getting all mean and offended. I've been trying to avoid controversy in the past year or so.

There were a lot of jangly rock and surfing music instrumentals in the sixties. A list of those would be good for this "Unsung songs" theme.

  9. A spreadsheet. Wow. I am in awe! No, really. I just kind of wing it most of the time. I knew all of these except for Speed of Life and I have to admit one thing - when I listen to Axel F, I always get the urge to listen to the Miami Vice theme - I have no idea why, but that is just what I did. Strange, right?
