#SongLyricSunday : Cover of the Rolling Stone

Time again for Song Lyric Sunday!

The Idea was formed by Helen @ This Thing Called Life One Word At A Time.  Helen has been ill for quite some time, so Jim has stepped up as Guest Host for this fun weekly post.

I’m going to keep this relatively short today, as I normally have the post written by Saturday evening. Well, the word prompt hadn’t been posted by the time I went to bed, and then, of course, I slept in this morning so this post is a bit late getting out.

Jim has chosen an appropriate theme of “doctor/health/medicine” to kick off his role as Guest Host.  I do wish Helen a speedy recovery and a quick return to blogging.

The song I picked has been on my mind quite a bit this past week. In fact, I spent most of my day yesterday listening to interviews and music from the band.   I was shocked to learn that Ray Sawyer had passed away at the age of 81 on Dec 31, 2018.   Shocked because in most of the music videos that are posted online, the band is stoned out of their minds. I thought for certain he would have died years ago.

I chose ‘Cover Of The Rolling Stone’  as my song choice for today.  The song was written by Shel Silverstein, beloved children’s author.  Performed by Dr Hook & The Traveling Medicine Show.

Oh, we're big rock singers.
We got golden fingers.
And we're loved everywhere we go.
We sing about beauty,
And we sing about truth
At ten thousand dollars a show.
We take all kinds of pills
To give us all kind of thrills,
But the thrill we've never known
Is the thrill that'll getcha
When you get your picture
On the cover of the Rolling Stone.

Rolling Stone...
Wanna see my picture on the cover.
Stone...
Wanna buy five copies for my Mother.
Stone...
Wanna see my smiling face
On the cover of the Rolling Stone.

I got a freaky old lady
Named Cocaine Katy
Who embroiders all my jeans.
Got my poor old grey-haired daddy
Drivin' my limousine.
It's all designed to blow our minds,
But our minds won't really get blown
Like the blow that'll getcha
When you get your picture
On the cover of the Rolling Stone.

We gotta lotta little teenage blue-eyed groupies
Who do anything we say.
We got a genuine Indian guru
Who's teaching us a better way.
We got all the friends that money can buy,
So we never have to be alone.
And we keep getting richer,
But we can't get our picture
On the cover of the Rolling Stone.

    1. I truly enjoy quite a few of their songs. This song and Only Sixteen were heavy on my mind yesterday. Only Sixteen kept running through my head when I tried to go to sleep last night.
