#4M : Occupations, Part I

It’s Free choice week for Monday’s Music Moves Me, and that means I can use any theme that I want today :)   I always look forward to the weeks with assigned themes, as I am one of those people that need a little bit of structure in my life - plus I enjoy a good challenge! But this week, I am prepared!

Last week for Song Lyric Sunday, Jim over at A Unique Title For Me gave us the theme of ‘Occupation’.  My brain went a little crazy and went all sorts of directions before I finally settled on the song that I chose for that theme.  And since I have a some ‘Free Choice’ weeks that need posts, I’m going to use that excess here. Hope you don't mind.

Note: I’m going to try to not re-use songs that were used in Song Lyric Sunday.

Bon Jovi - Livin’ On A Prayer
The Pretenders - Back On The Chain Gang
Sam Cooke - Chain Gang
Loretta Lynn - Coal Miner’s Daughter
George Strait - The Fireman
Lee Dorsey - Working In a Coal Mine
Johnny Cash - One Piece At A Time
Grateful Dead - Casey Jones
Simon & Garfunkel - The Boxer
The Who - Bell Boy

It turns out I’ve got quite a few more songs to share, so I’m going to split this theme up into parts. Part II will be shared in the next Free Choice week (2 weeks from now)

Today’s post is part of the Monday’s Music Moves Me blog hop, hosted by X-Mas Dolly, and co-hosted by JAmerican Spice, Stacy Uncorked, Curious as a Cathy. , and Ramblin with AM. Be sure to stop by the hosts and visit the other participants.  If you have a MUSIC* post, feel free to join in the fun! *sorry non-music posts are not permitted in this bloghop.

  1. Mary,

What a cool theme! I enjoyed your playlist. I listened to it while I worked on one of my A2Z sketches. Thanks for sharing the dance floor with me and have a boogietastic week!

    1. Thanks Cathy!

This was fun to put together. Plus, it filled in the slots for a few weeks for Free Choice week. Ha!

  2. Good list! My favorite, of course, is Johnny Cash's "One Piece At A Time."

  4. This is a nice theme and I loved almost all of your selections. The Boxer is one of my favorite Simon and Garfunkel songs. Johnny Cash - well, it's Johnny Cash so it has to be good. The Who song I didn't recognize but my husband recognized it - he had never known the title, though. For Bon Jovi, I (personally) would have chosen Wanted Dead or Alive, as it was the theme song for the show The Deadliest Catch, which my son (years ago) loved to watch. I'll be waiting impatiently for Part 2.

    1. This particular Bon Jovi song was chosen because Tommy used to work on the docks and Gina works at the diner all day. Whereas Wanted Dead or Alive only mentions being a cowboy.
