#RMF2019 #BOTB Results Cream

Day 8 of #RocktoberMusicFest2019

Today is the day I also give the results of the latest Battle of the Bands.  For the Oct 1 Battle of the Bands, Jeff Healy and Waylon Jennings battled it out with ‘White Room’ by Cream.

Wikipedia tells us this about Cream:
Cream were a British rock band formed in London in 1966. The group consisted of bassist Jack Bruce, guitarist Eric Clapton, and drummer Ginger Baker. All three members sang lead and backing vocals. The group's third album, Wheels of Fire, is the world's first platinum-selling double album. Formed from members of previously successful bands, they are widely regarded as the world's first supergroup. In their career, they sold more than 15 million records worldwide. Their music spanned many genres of rock music, including blues rock, psychedelic rock, and hard rock.

It is with sadness that I have to report that Ginger Baker passed away on Sunday, Oct 6. He was 80 yrs old.

Here are the results of the battle:

Jeff Healy with 6 votes

  1. I was a Cream fan back in the day and still enjoy hearing their music. The outcome of your Battle was as I would have expected though Waylon gave it a commendable try that might have gotten my vote had I been in a different state of mind.

    1. I tend to agree with you. Sometimes I think it all depends on which way the wind is blowing on these battles.

  2. Another sad loss in the music community! 😢 I always liked Cream, especially "White Room". Brings back a lot of memories. Glad to see Jeff Healey win out, here. A nice honour for his memory! 💓

    1. While Waylon put his spin on the song, I do believe that Jeff Healey performed it best. It's sad that we lost Ginger, but he was, after all, 80 years old.

  3. Sad about ginger, but a great playlist of Cream songs.

  4. Mary,

Somehow I missed the news about Cream's bandmember, Ginger, passing despite having visited a couple of bloggers featuring their mewsic. It wasn't until I stopped in at Alana's this morning that I realized that he had died. He lived a long life compared to many other rockers. Saying prayers for the family and I hope he's now resting in peace.

I went with the winner in this showdown. Yay! Thanks for hosting the month of fun. Come by to enjoy this morning's Heart concert when you can, my dear!

    1. Ha! I must be having a real senior moment today! Dealing with some health issues, at first I had thought that you had already commented. Somehow I had Debbie's comment mixed up with yours.

I LOVE Heart. They'll be making an appearance here a bit later in the month, but I am definitely going to check out your post. (and then maybe take a nap!)

    2. Mary,

Don't worry about it. I've been really out of it this week with this head stuff going on. I'm finally feeling more like myself this morning and am trying to get caught up. Thanks for stopping by yesterday!

    1. There were plenty of those this time around. I'm just happy I didn't have a shutout.

Well, I'm very pleased that the Battle didn't end up with me being the only person to have voted for Waylon (even though I want my brownie points for having been the first).

You know, you could also probably do a pretty good BOTB contest with the song 'Born Under A Bad Sign'. Like, perhaps, Cream versus Albert King. (Those are the two renditions that come to mind, although there are undoubtedly plenty of others.)

When I was a real little kid (like, 5th & 6th grade), a neighborhood boy named Greg Ford - who was at least 3 or 4 years older than I was - listened to a lot of Cream. So, because I kind of looked up to Greg, I liked Cream because he did.

But then when I got older and started to discover my own genuine preferences, my enthusiasm about Cream waned. I still like a few of their songs, but to my adult tastes, I feel they were just a bit too over-the-top with all the loud, psychedelic instrumentation. They sound a bit "excessive" to me now. And that word - "excessive" - I would also apply to many of the Rock acts of the late '60s and very, very early '70s. Not my mug of beer anymore.

And, with God as my witness, I'll have an installment for the Rocktober blogfest sooner'n later. Barring a death in the family or a computer breakdown, no later than tomorrow. (And possibly sooner, depending upon my time-management.)
