#RMF2019: Def Leppard

Day 18 of #RocktoberMusicFest2019

This band I’ve always wanted to see in concert, but it just never happened for me. I did have an opportunity back in the early 2000’s. I had tickets to see them at an amphitheater, but it was late in the fall, and it rained hard all day the day of the concert. As much as I enjoy the band, I was not about to spend my evening on cold wet grass.

Wikipedia tells us this about Def Leppard:
Def Leppard are an English rock band formed in 1977 in Sheffield as part of the new wave of British heavy metal movement. Since 1992, the band has consisted of Joe Elliott, Rick Savage, Rick Allen, Phil Collen, and Vivian Campbell. This is the band's longest lasting line-up.

Here are 10 of their songs:

  1. Pour Some Sugar On Me
  2. Photograph
  3. Rock of Ages
  4. Love Bites
  5. Foolin’
  6. Armageddon It
  7. Bringin’ On the Heartbreak
  8. Hysteria
  9. Animal
  10. Too Late For Love

  1. I love Def Leppard from any era, but early 80s DefLep was my favorite. "Foolin'" and "Bringin' On The Heartache" are some of my favorites songs of all time. I saw them with Tesla in 1988, and it was one of the best concerts I've ever seen. And I've seen quite a few live shows.

My selection can be seen here. I hope you get a chance to come by and give it a listen!

    1. I will always associate 'Rock of Ages' with my first love. We weren't even dating at the time, but my friends and I had just rented a place to live and he came over to help assemble beds. This song came on and it just stuck in my memories.

Am jealous you got to see them - with Tesla, no less!

  2. A total Eclipse of Rocktober is mine for today.

I never really got into Def Leppard. I like some of their songs, though.

    1. Hi Robin!

As usual, I'm running late... but will be to your posts very soon. I like their music, and I think their story is inspiring. I mean, who can drum as well as Rick Allen with only one arm?

  3. We have seen them in concert a few times. Once we actually left early though because the bass was so loud it was drowning everything else out and you could hardly hear the singing! They do have some great songs! Here's mine for today:

    1. Oh I don't like it when they don't have things balanced out. I wonder who was in charge of sound check? I'll be by shortly to check out your posts. Am running behind this week.

  4. I like Def Leppard's harder rock numbers better than the pop stuff, but we did see them in 2011. Heart was the opening act and that was our main motivation for going. That said, I was completely blown away by Def Leppard's musicianship and frontman Joe Elliot's stage presence. Not to mention the brilliance of drummer Rick Allen, who lost his left arm in a car accident in 1984. He's amazing!

Def Leppard recorded an album of cover songs, called "YEAH", in 2005. Their rendition of "Rock On" is brilliant! 👌

    1. Thanks for the reminder of the cover album. It will come in handy at some point for future BOTBs. I bet the concert was really great. If the weather had been different when I had the opportunity, I would have definitely taken advantage of it.

  5. C'mon! Deaf Leopard and William Idle back-to-back? I see you don't have me in mind when you create these blog bits.

If I don't see The Beach Boys or The Babys or David & David show up pretty quick, I'm gonna sue you for breach of contract!

    1. Yo McStephen!

Better start consulting that attorney.... This year's Rocktober selections were done solely for my own entertainment. I'm sure if you greased Judge Al's pockets well enough, you might even have a solid case :)

      Maybe next year, eh?

  6. Mary,

It's so funny how I've learned that some of these old groups I thought I wasn't my cup of tea had so many good hits that I'd forgotten about until revisiting them. 'Pour Some Sugar On Me', 'Photograph', 'Rock of Ages', & 'Love Bites' (beautiful power ballad) are great choices but the others are good, too. One thing for sure I can say about these old heavy metal bands is they had some real talent unlike many of the mewsicians today. Thanks for reminding me how much I liked some of these tunes.
