#BOTB Results: The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face

Time to reveal the winner!

Our latest battle had some old-timers fighting to see who did the best cover of ‘The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face’.  Of course, everyone is familiar with Roberta Flack’s version - but did you know that was a cover as well?  I chose not to include her in the battle as it is the  most known version and that would have been an unfair advantage.

We had Peter Paul and Mary who put their folksy spin on the song, and Gordon Lightfoot who definitely made the song sound like a Gordon Lightfoot song, and George Michael - who did his best to sound like Roberta Flack

Overall, the battle turned out pretty decent. There were a few moment early on in the battle that I worried there might be a shutout for one or two of the contestants. Thankfully, voters came to their rescue!

The Final Outcome:

Peter, Paul & Mary with 2 votes
Gordon Lightfoot with 6 votes
George Michael with 3 votes

Are you surprised by the outcome?  I know I was. I thought for sure George Michael would take this one. Guess that shows what I know, and it was a gentle reminder that everything is subjective.

Let’s hear it for our winner!

See you all again on the 1st (hopefully)! I’ve got a small stint in the hospital coming up next week and I haven’t yet got anything planned for the battle, but hopefully I’ll gain some inspiration between now and then.

  1. MMQE ~

Your outcome - vote margin-wise between 3 competitors - was very similar to mine.

This was a good Battle with a good song!

See ya again on March 1st, eh?

  2. Mary,

This showdown was very decisive clearly giving Lightfoot a victory in the end. Thanks for sharing the outcome, my dear. My results posting is on Saturday if you're interested in checking it out but don't sweat it if you can't get to it. My battle was really tight with the winning narrowly pulling it off!
