Irish Musicians

Today’s selected theme for Monday’s Music Moves Me is ‘Songs that are about St Patrick's Day or Ireland’.

Well, In case you haven’t noticed… I’m a bit of a rebel. I’ll do the theme, but of course I’m going to put my own spin on it :)

But first- a quick story.  I’m Scottish, with a very Scottish maiden name. When my dad was younger, he was very much into genealogy. He learned that some of our ancestors came from Ireland, yet Grandpa Baird was very adamant that we are Scottish. So my dad very boldly asked him one day - ‘Grandpa, why do you insist that we are Scottish if some of our ancestors came from Ireland?’  and Grandpa Baird simply replied with ‘Just because a cat has her kittens in the oven, it doesn’t mean they are biscuits.’

So today, I figured I would simply go with tunes from Irish musicians.  Enjoy!

  1. U2 - One
  2. Thin Lizzy - Dancing In the Moonlight
  3. The Cranberries - Linger
  4. Boomtown Rats - I Don’t Like Monday’s
  5. Hothouse Flowers - I Can See Clearly Now
  6. Picturehouse - Sunburst
  7. Paddy Casey - Sinnerman
  8. Robert O’Connor - Real Good Fight
  9. B*Witched - C’est La Vie
  10. Taste - Blister On The Moon

I don’t know about you, but I discovered some new to me music here today.

  2. Mary,

Your grandpa's explanation cracked me up. The Scottish & Irish seem so close to me and I think there's a little bit of both in my bloodline. Your playlist is a mix of mostly new-to-me songs. The only song title I knew in this set is "One" by U2. Thanks for hitting the 4M dance floor, my dear. I hope you're feeling stronger each day. Sending love & hugs your way!

  3. Very nice songs. I was trying to do it without using U2. I am a weird combo of African-American and Irish. So, I have some Irish blood in me.

  4. Well, there ya go. First of all great set list here although I never heard any of them. I must be living under a rock some where. I've been having a rough time have two friends in the hospital, but both are home now. Yes, your grandpa's explanation was a hoot for sure & I'm sure to a child too or it scared ya off! hahahaha So somewhere in the cobwebs of my memory I think I might have heard your first song, but other than that I have to get caught up on my music. Have a great week my friend. hugs
