#4M: Oh, Brother!

It’s a new month, and we have a new musical conductor. Stacy from Stacy Uncorked gets to choose our themes this month. Today’s theme is Songs about Family or Siblings.

Well, you know me. I’m a rebel. I’m taking a bit of privilege with this one. Mostly because this is a topic that The Cute One asked me to post about recently.  So, instead of Songs about Family or Siblings, I’ve got bands that are only siblings; others were formed of siblings and their friends. And just a head's up - this project sent me down a serious rabbit hole. Stay tuned to find out just how serious this is...

Please enjoy this week’s playlist:

  1. 30 Seconds to Mars, an American rock band, Jared and Shannon Leto - Today’s Song: Rescue Me
  2. 98 Degrees, an American pop and R&B vocal group whose founding member include brothers Nick and Drew Lachey Today’s Song: I Do (Cherish You)
  3. AC/DC, an Australian rock band, Malcolm and Angus Young Today’s Song: Thunderstruck
  4. Ace of Base, a Swedish quartet that includes three Berggren siblings Today’s Song: All That She Wants
  5. The Allman Brothers Band, an American southern jam band led by Gregg Allman and the late Duane Allman Today’s Song: Midnight Rider
  6. The Andrews Sisters, an American close-harmony singing group, LaVerne Sophia, Maxene Angelyn, and Patricia "Patty" Marie Andrews Today’s Song: Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy
  7. Atlantic Starr began in Greenburgh, New York with trumpeter Duke Jones (who left the band prior to their first recordings), drummer Porter Carroll Jr., bassist Clifford Archer, percussionist and flautist Joseph Phillips, Sheldon Tucker (Guitar; parted ways with the band before the first recordings), and three brothers: David Lewis (vocals/guitar), Wayne Lewis (keyboards and vocals), and Jonathan Lewis (percussion and trombone). Today’s Song: Always
  8. Bachman-Turner Overdrive, Canadian rock band from Winnipeg Manitoba Randy, Tim, and Robbie Bachman  Today’s Song:You Ain’t Seen Nothing Yet
  9. The Band Perry, an American music group composed of siblings Kimberly, Reid, and Neil Perry Today’s Song: If I Die Young
  10. The Bangles, American pop band with sisters Vicki and Debbi Peterson. Today’s Song: Eternal Flame

  1. 30 Seconds to Mars, Jared and Shannon Leto in 30 seconds to Mars I've never heard. Surely this tune is different. Now I don't mean to change the subject, but do you pay for your website? I have to move my blog... I'll tell ya bout it later. If you could let me know in an email I'd truly appreciate it. xmasdolly@comcast.net - Now back to biz! Nope, never heard this tune, but it sure is different to say the least. 98 Degrees, I do cherish you I have heard before and it's a lovely song to say the least. The Band Perry The ending was too funny. Never saw the video. hahaha AC/DC in Thunderstruck is too cool. Hubby had a band with guys he kinda grew up with & the bass player sounded just like this guy. I always made them sing Dynamite my favorite! Oh boy, love this next tune... Ace of the Base... at first I thought it was a young guy & they're girls! hahaha Boy am I dumb or what... hahaha Allman Brothers & this tune is dynamite. Midnite Rider... hubby's band use to play this tune too in fact hubby sang it. Great tune. Up next is hahaha Andrew Sistas... LET'S BOOGIE! LUV IT! WOO HOO tell ya this one really woke me up! hahaha Fantastic girlfriend... you really know how to pick them. It was my mom's very tune and loved to do the jitter bug with my brother (he was 6 yrs. older than me so he knew how). haha Atlantic Starr Always, Love, love, love this tune... so pretty. Hubby & I would play this tune & dance in the frontroom... so pretty! Thanks for pickin' this one for sure. Bachman-Turner Overdrive... oh yeah, great tune when you're on a long ride! woo hoo! The Band Perry - If I die young... I think I've heard this tune before. Kinda cute, but that ending sure is different huh? The Bangles - Eternal Flame. Pretty song... and definitely a riding tune for the radio. Guess I don't feel too many tunes are dance tunes considering I've done a lot of audience sitting... especially when your boyfriend/husband is in a band! hahaha Have a great day! HUGS & HAVE A GREAT DAY! Be healthy/Be safe!!!!

  2. Mary,

    Tell the Cute One brilliant idea for this week's theme! 👏 A couple of groups you could've included would be The Cowsills, The Corrs, The Lennon Sisters, and the list could go on! I took a quick peek at Wikipedia's list of 'sibling bands' and it's really long. Your theme direction could become a series but knowing you, you probably already thought of that already. :) The Band Perry is from a small town about 45 minutes north east of Knoxville. I love it when mewsic talent from our locale make it big in the industry. Thanks for sharing the dance floor with the 4M gang, my dear. Take it easy. I want those wounds to heal up so you'll really feel like dancing the whole night away. {{hugs}}

    1. Hi Cathy!

Yes, I found that list :) and I put together a series that will fill up the rest of the Free Choice slots for the rest of the year - this was only using bands that I was familiar with. I love it when a fun series comes out of these themes. I'll keep The Band Perry in mind when my musical roadtrip gets to your neck of the woods. I'm working on my Rocktober posts now. I'll get them scheduled early so it's one less thing to worry about. Knocking on wood here - wound is almost healed up and I don't have to see oncologists again until tail end of October.

  3. I have a feeling you only made it to the B's. Looking forward to the rest of the list!
I never knew who was in 30 Seconds to Mars. Jared Leto! I suppose there's a hidden theme in there about crossover talent; actors turned singers and vice versa.

    1. Hi Dave!

Hmmm crossover talent. That would be a fun theme to explore. I'll make note of that for future use. Kevin Bacon, Jack Black, Bruce Willis are three that come to mind right off the bat.

  9. I'm not sure I've heard anything by 30 seconds to Mars - I liked that song. The Band Perry was the other new song that I enjoyed. The Andrew Sisters was a nice addition to this family theme; it made me think of the Lennon Sisters I saw so many times on the Lawrence Welk show growing up. Why didn't I think of brothers or sisters groups like that? Well, It's Too Late Now. Or maybe not. A theme for a future post of mine?
