#Roadtrip: Alberta
Time to hit the road!
The premise behind this theme is to pick a location, and highlight some or all of the musical artists (not inclusive) that are associated with that location. The locations will not be limited to the continental United States. We’re going Everywhere!
We were last in British Columbia, so today we’re headed east to Alberta.
Today’s Roadtrip Playlist:
- Big House - was a Canadian punk-influenced rock band, based in Edmonton, Alberta, and active in the early 1990s. Big House released a four-song EP, Pretty Things, in 1990 as a preview of their self-titled debut album, which was released in 1991 on BMG Records. By the time they began touring to support the album, however, bassist Beakhouse had left the band and was replaced by Jay Scott King. The album was a Juno Award nominee for Best Hard Rock Album at the Juno Awards of 1992. Today’s Song: Dollar In My Pocket
- Tegan and Sara - formed in 1998 in Calgary, Alberta, composed of identical twin sisters Tegan Rain Quin and Sara Keirsten Quin. Today’s Song: The Con
- Nickelback is a Canadian rock band formed in 1995 in Hanna, Alberta, Canada. Today’s Song: Rockstar
- The Stampeders - The band formed in Calgary, Alberta in 1964 as The Rebounds. Today’s Song: Sweet City Woman
- Paul Brandt - he was a pediatric RN at the time of his big break. In 1996, he made his mark on the country music charts with the single "My Heart Has a History," propelling him to international success and making him the first male Canadian country singer to reach the Top 10 of the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart in the United States since Hank Snow in 1974. Cool that you're showcasing Canada, Mary! Nickelback is hated by many (too commercial they say, or, some other bull). I love them! And Rockstar is such a fun song. The Stampeders bring back a lot of memories. Good times of the 70s! Tegan and Sara are familiar, but the other two I hadn't heard before. Thanks for the playlist.
ReplyDeleteI have some fond memories of Alberta, but don't remember musical artists who came from there. Though I'm familiar with a few of your picks, I had no idea where they came from. Good name choice for The Stampeders since they came from Calgary.
