#Roadtrip: Chicago, Part 2

Time to hit the road!

The premise behind this theme is to pick a location, and highlight some or all of the musical artists (not inclusive) that are associated with that location. The locations will not be limited to the continental United States. We’re going Everywhere!

This is week two of a two-week visit to Chicago. We’ve managed to dodge bullets and fill up on deep-dish pizza. We’ve had more than our share of Hot Dogs and Italian Beef Sandwiches. It’s time to have our last concert for this trip. We will definitely be back again soon!

Today’s Roadtrip Playlist:

  1. Survivor - formed in Chicago in 1978 around Jim Peterik and Frankie Sullivan. The band achieved its greatest success in the 1980s, producing many charting singles, especially in the United States. Today’s Song: The Search Is Over

  2. The Chi-Lites - R&B/soul vocal quartet from Chicago, Illinois, United States. The group's greatest fame came during the early 1970s. They scored eleven Top Ten R&B hits from 1969 to 1974. They also charted 21 songs in the Billboard Hot 100 Pop Chart, and had chart hits in Australia, the United Kingdom, Ireland, and Canada, as well as in the U.S. Today’s Song: Have You Seen Her

  3. Earth, Wind & Fire - band that has spanned the musical genres of R&B, soul, funk, jazz, disco, pop, rock, dance, Latin, and Afro pop. They have been described as one of the most innovative and commercially successful acts of all time. Today’s Song: September

  4. Rise Against - punk rock band from Chicago. The group's current line-up comprises vocalist/rhythm guitarist Tim McIlrath, lead guitarist Zach Blair, bassist Joe Principe and drummer Brandon Barnes. Today’s Song: Savior

  5. Chicago - rock band formed in 1967 in Chicago, Illinois, calling themselves the Chicago Transit Authority in 1968 before shortening the name in 1969. The self-described "rock and roll band with horns" blended elements of classical music, jazz, R&B, and pop music.  Today’s Song: 25 or 6 to 4

I’m trying to keep the playlists to 5 tunes each, so if you know of an artist associated with the location that was not featured, be sure to mention them in the comments. There’s always a good chance we’ll be re-visiting locations.  I’m also open to suggestions for locations.  In the meantime, I’m just meandering around the continent.

See you again soon!

  1. Mary, did you ever meet Peter Cetera of Chicago in Sun Valley? I think I mentioned it earlier, but I played softball against him there. Great athlete, great sense of humor, great guy. A lot of fun!

    1. I don't know that I ever did meet him, either that or I just wasnt paying attention. I recall you mentioning him once or twice. One time, I was having lunch with a friend at a pizza place in Ketchum (not Louie's) and Mariel Hemmingway came in with Jamie Lee Curtis and sat in a booth across from me. I was curious to see what they ordered - it was just a regular ole pizza.
