January Battle Of The Bands

It’s been a minute or two… but as promised, I have returned to Battle of the Bands.  For those of you that may be new to my blog, I recently took a hiatus from the battles.  Hopefully, our fearless battle leader will be returning as well.

I had a particular song in mind for today’s battle, but then YouTube recommended a video to me, and it pretty much summed up my thoughts.  Yes, I’m old enough to remember the original… and yes, I may have even owned a cassette containing the song.

To explain further why I have selected today’s song: 2020 was a tough year for me. No, I didn’t have COVID, but I did have a medical appointment of some sort every single week (and multiple times most weeks) up until Thanksgiving. That’s when I put my foot down and insisted my medical care be given a moratorium until January. Between the appointments, trying to keep up with 2 blogs, the multiple facebook pages and groups that I run, I had had enough!

Today’s battle song: I Don’t Care Anymore

In 1982, Phil Collins (drummer/lead singer for Genesis - not to be confused with Phil Collen, guitarist for Def Leppard) released the song on his second solo album. It is one of his most recognizable signature songs and a favorite of his fans.

Our first contender is: Hell Yeah

Hellyeah, stylized as HELLYEAH, is an American heavy metal supergroup formed in Dallas, Texas in 2006. The band's current lineup consists of lead vocalist Chad Gray, guitarists Christian Brady and Tom Maxwell, bassist Kyle Sanders, and drummer Roy Mayorga. The idea to form a supergroup originated in 2000 on the Tattoo the Earth tour, although plans were constantly put on hold due to scheduling conflicts. The summer of 2006 allowed the band to take the project seriously and record its first album. Recorded at Chasin' Jason studio in Dimebag Darrell's backyard, their self-titled album entered the Billboard 200 at number 9, selling 45,000 copies. AllMusic reviewer William Ruhlmann stated the album is "a competent example of its genre" awarding the album three-and-a-half stars.

Our other contender is a collaboration of: Staind, Saint Asonia, and Seether

In the event that you are new here, or you have simply forgotten… Here’s a review of how a battle works:

  1. Listen to each of the contenders. Try not to be persuaded by the videos.

  2. Pick the contender that you prefer the most

  3. Leave a comment with the name of the contender you have chosen. Feel free to expound upon your choice.

  4. Visit the other bloggers that have battles taking place. Their battles are different from each other, so be sure to check them each out.

    1. Stephen McCarthy

    2. Tossing It Out

    3. Mike’s Ramblings

    4. The Sound of One Hand Typing

    5. Cherdo On The Flipside

    6. Curious As A Cathy

    7. Storms & Stardust

Alright now… Cast your votes in the comments!

  1. Happy New Year and welcome back to BoTB, Mary!! Your contenders' styles in this round are a contrast from one another. The first is heavier, grittier ramped version whereas the second cover is has this laid back vibe kind of making me all mellow. I enjoyed both very much, too. I'm torn on who to give my vote to but I think I'm going to go with Staind, Saint Asonia, and Seether for two reasons; one it's more my style and two they scare me. Hell Yeah is a bit frightening to look at. Have an awesome 1st day of the new year, my friend. {{Hugs}}

    HAPPY MARGARITA DAY!
    "A tradition since 1986,
    except for 1994."

    Welcome back, my friend!
Like everyone else, I'm glad to see 2020 now in the past. Unfortunately, I don't foresee things getting any better in '21. (Oops! There goes my New Year's Resolution to stay positive! ...OK, I'm "POSITIVE" things won't be better in '21? Does that work?)

Since Heavy Metal is not my thang, I'm casting my BOTB bote for Staind, Saint Asonia, and Seether (whoever the heck they are).

Mary, I hope your health improves greatly this new year. I keep you in my prayers daily.

  5. Better late than never (sorry about the lateness of my visit) Hell Yeah is my vote. The other one was too much like the original. Hell Yeah had a fresh heavy metal take on it.
