Time again for the Friday Five! Today we’re going to take a look/listen to power ballads performed by men. Last week, if you recall, we talked about Female Power Ballads .

Harmonies. It’s one of the first things you notice when you listen to the Doobie Brothers. From their formation in 1969 throughout the multiple incarnations over the years, the band itself stayed true to its harmonies foundation.

It’s time for another round of Battle of the Bands!  And we are still in a ‘More Cowbell’ frame of mind!

More than a few bands have shared/swapped members or collaborated over time. Bands evolve and revolve all the time. Some band members have side projects but remain in their regular band. I’ve always been interested in following the trails of who went where and their successes.

2016 was a very rough year on musicians. We lost so many great ones. Some were legends, some were a bit more obscure, but there were certainly quite a few of them.  George Michael was one of the more recent deaths, passing on Christmas Day 2016.

The band name “Steely Dan” comes from the name of an object in a William S. Burroughs’ book called “Naked Lunch.” The band itself was started in 1972 by Walter Becker and Donald Fagen. Now, Becker and Fagen had played in other groups prior to Steely Dan, including one which had Chevy Chase on drums. Yes, THAT Chevy Chase.

“What this battle needs is MORE COWBELL! ” That’s what blogger Stephen T McCarthy wrote on a recent battle of the band post. But Stephen T McCarthy isn’t just some blogger spouting off. He is the co-founder of the Battle of the Bands Blog Hop , and current ringleader of a rowdy bunch of bloggers that sometimes listen to what he has to say.
