Mother Love Bone

Image
We recently talked about Temple of the Dog here on the blog, so it's only fitting that we talk a little bit about Mother Love Bone.

Temple Of The Dog

Image
Temple of the Dog was started by Soundgarden frontman Chris Cornell, who had been a roommate of Andrew Wood, the lead singer of Malfunkshun and Mother Love Bone. Wood died on March 19, 1990 of a heroin overdose, the day Cornell got back from a tour. As he went on to tour Europe a few days later, he started writing songs in tribute to his late friend. The result was two songs, "Reach Down" and "Say Hello 2 Heaven," which he recorded as soon as he got back from touring.

The Results are IN!  Here’s how it works: I’ll be posting two versions of the same song and after you give a listen to each, place your vote for your favorite and reason for the way you voted in the comments section. The Battles take place on or around the 1st and 15th of each month, and the results will be posted on or around the 7th and 21st. As I only post Monday, Wednesday, and Fridays, the posting date will be closest to those dates as possible. The other blogs participating in the Battle of the Bands are posting different battles (different songs), So once you’re done voting and commenting on my battle, take a moment to visit the other participants and vote & comment on their battles.  There are some really good battles going on!

#FridayFive The King of Rock and Roll

Image
In August 1953, Presley walked into the offices of Sun Records. He aimed to pay for a few minutes of studio time to record a two-sided acetate disc: "My Happiness" and "That's When Your Heartaches Begin". He would later claim that he intended the record as a gift for his mother, or that he was merely interested in what he "sounded like", although there was a much cheaper, amateur record-making service at a nearby general store. Biographer Peter Guralnick argues that he chose Sun in the hope of being discovered. Asked by receptionist Marion Keisker what kind of singer he was, Presley responded, "I sing all kinds." When she pressed him on who he sounded like, he repeatedly answered, "I don't sound like nobody." After he recorded, Sun boss Sam Phillips asked Keisker to note down the young man's name, which she did along with her own commentary: "Good ballad singer. Hold." While Elvis has a vast discography, today

RED SUN RISING

Rock music should be built to last. Since its genesis, the genre has been all about longevity not a “flavor of the month” or a “flash in the pan.” Whether you go back to the seventies or nineties pillars, the goal was to create something that can be lived with for a lifetime. It still can be that way. Akron, Ohio’s Red Sun Rising—Mike Protich [vocals/guitar], Ryan Williams [guitar], Tyler Valendza [guitar], Ricky Miller [bass/vocals], and Pat Gerasia [drums]. —proudly carry on that tradition with their full-length debut, Polyester Zeal [Razor & Tie].

#FridayFive Was John Fogerty Really John Ford Coley?

Image
Recently, on one of my fellow blogger's battle of the bands, there was a discussion about how some had mistaken John Fogerty for John Ford Coley. I thought it would have been pretty funny if John Ford Coley had also covered some of the same songs as Fogerty, so I set out on a mission to dig up what I could find.

Chris Watkins: Lights All Askew

A little over a year ago, musician friend to the blog Chris Watkins sent me a sample of his music in hopes that I would introduce the readers here to his music. I am very happy to say that his music was very well received and he has sent me new audio videos of a few of his new tracks on his latest album.
