Memories and The Lion King!

Written by: Echo aka The Mad Mommy

Anyone that knows me or reads my blog knows that I am a huge Disney and Pixar fan. The movies, the characters, the songs and the feelings all move me and most of the hold special memories for me, much like my FAVORITE Disney movie, The Lion King.

The Lion King Soundtrack was released in 1994 and featured songs written by Elton John and Tim Rice. It also contained a score composed by Hans Zimmer. It is the best-selling soundtrack album to an animated film in the United States with over 7 million copies sold, with 4,934,000 copies sold in 1994.

Tim Rice and Elton John were nominated for Oscars for Circle of Life, Hakuna Matata and Can You Feel the Love Tonight and took home the Oscar for Best Original Song with Can You Feel the Love Tonight. Hans Zimmer also took home the Oscar for Best Original Score. The soundtrack also won Golden Globes and Grammys.

Now, while all of the amazing songs in this movie will get me singing and dancing, Circle of Life holds a very special place in my heart and my memories and it is all because of my little sister. She was 5 when The Lion King came out on VHS and man, we would watch it daily! It always started with the Circle of Life…

Around the 25 second mark of this beautiful song, a chant starts. It is “Ingonyama nengw' enamabala” and we used to sing our hearts out. However, my sister had her own chant and it was “pink pajamas penguins on the bottom”. She swore for the longest time that it was right and no one was going to change her mind.

Now, in our 20’s and 30’s, of course we know better, but neither of us can help ourselves. When Circle of Life starts playing…

It’s “pink pajamas penguins on the bottom”!

Music has a way of getting into your mind, getting into your memories and getting into your soul. Sometimes, all it takes is a song to take you back in time, to a memory that you have stored away.

Thank you Echo, for being today's guest!
