#FridayFive Get Your Groove On

It's Friday and it's time to get our groove on! Feeling Funky today!

Funk is a music genre that originated in the mid-to late 1960s when African American musicians created a rhythmic, dance-able new form of music through a mixture of soul music, jazz, and rhythm and blues (R&B). Funk De-emphasizes melody and harmony and brings a strong rhythmic groove of electric bass and drums to the foreground.

Not much to say here, other than get down and enjoy the funk!

Parliament/Funkadelic - Tear the Roof Off the Sucker/Give Up the Funk

Earth Wind & Fire - Let's Groove

Sly and the Family Stone - Thank You (Falletinme Be Mice Elf Agin)

James Brown - I Feel Good

Kool & The Gang - Get Down On It

Check these and others out on the playlist

I've got a fun theme planned for this year, and I can't wait to see what everyone else comes up with!

  1. ♫I Feel Good♫ That song always makes me smile. Funk in general is a real "feel good" genre. Another enjoyable post, Mary! Thanks for the mood lifter.

    1. Thanks, Debbie! I like to think of it as a happy Friday dance. Hope all is well with you.

  2. Though I wouldn't list "Get Down on It" as an absolute favorite song, I would name Kool and the Gang as one of my favorite groups.

    Arlee Bird
    Tossing It Out

  3. I'm blessed to have so many different genres at my fingertips. Good stuff!
