Songs about Growing Old #4M
Monday is here again and it’s a brand new month! That means we also have a brand new Musical Conductor to pick our themes each week. Our Musical Conductor is not really ‘new’, but she’s taking the reins for the month of September. Cathy of ‘Curious As A Cathy’ has picked some pretty good ones for this month.
Yesterday, September 9, was Grandparents Day, and in honor of that, Cathy has given us the theme of "Songs About/Being A Grandparent or Growing Old". I have no experience being a grandparent, and all of my grandparents (with the exception of my maternal grandmother) passed before I was born, so I decided to focus on something I am familiar with - Growing Old.
Instantly my mind went to When I’m 64. But instinctively, I suspect that many of us have thought of this particular song, so I’m opting to leave it off my set list and give you 5 other songs instead :)
And, added bonus, I’m keeping this post short because it seems the older I become, the less time I seem to have.
Here’s is today’s set list:
- The Who - My Generation
- Jimmy Durante - Young At Heart
- Grateful Dead - Touch of Grey
- Willie Nelson - September Song
- Ed Sheeran - Thinking Out Loud
What other songs can you think of that would be good for this theme? Tell me about it in the comments below.
Today’s post is part of the Monday’s Music Moves Me blog hop, hosted by X-Mas Dolly, and co-hosted by JAmerican Spice, Stacy Uncorked, Curious as a Cathy. , and Ramblin with AM. Be sure to stop by the hosts and visit the other participants. If you have a MUSIC* post, feel free to join in the fun! *sorry non-music posts are not permitted in this bloghop.
Mary,
ReplyDeleteI'm listening to your playlist in the background while I play catchup this morning. Our weekend was so busy. We picked up a U-Haul van on Friday evening, got up Saturday morning at 5am to head for southern WV to get some of our personal belongings from DH's boyhood home. We got back in town around 3am, unloaded the van, took it back to U-Haul, went home showered, and finally got in bed at 9am. We slept for four hours so to not mess us up last night which left us dragging all day but still I managed to get some things taken care of that I left undone when we got home. I hope we can get early bed all week to try to even out those lost hours of sleep.
I don't know what it's like to be a grandparent yet but come November if all things go well then our first grandchild will be born. I'm not sure if I'm ready for this phase in my life. Do I even want to be called 'grandma'? That just sounds old and let's face it, I'm not old yet. I mean isn't old like anything over 100? It's funny how our definition of old changes. lol Thanks for sharing your 'growing old' mewsic set. You had a mix of new & old songs, some I knew and others I didn't. Have a pAwesome week, my friend. You rock!
One more thing, I love the meme! That really made me smile and I was thinking, wouldn't that be a cruel trick to play on oneself?

DeleteIt sounds as though you had a busy weekend. It would take me a good week to recover from one like that! Hope you are able to get some decent rest.

p.s.
DeleteCongrats on being a new grandparent! My brother finally admitted that he's going to be a grandpa in the spring (although the rest of us knew this a week or more ago!)
Great list. You picked two of mine- "Touch of Grey" and "Young at Heart". I guess great minds think alike. Have a wonderful Monday.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Patrick!
DeleteI figured there would be a bit of crossover and overlap today - that's one of the reasons I kept my list short. Have a great week!

For some reason, Blogger ate my comment... anyway, good songs, especially "Young At Heart." For a guy who couldn't sing, Durante was a great singer.
ReplyDeleteThanks John!
DeleteBlogger can sure be a booger some times! I still have two people that whenever they comment, I don't know about it unless I actually look at the post.
I'm not a Grandma, but I certainly know what it is like to be growing old. "My Generation" is a song that sticks with me, but Jimmy Durante, I think, sings it best (even if his voice isn't the best).
ReplyDeleteThey say we're only as old as we feel. some days I feel pretty ancient.
