#RocktoberMusicFest : Edgar Winter Group - Frankenstein

Here it is the last day of the month. October 31. Halloween.

It’s only fitting that I choose a song that falls somewhere in that category, right?

Today’s song, isn’t really a song in that it does not have lyrics, but one cannot deny this one from the rock category.

The song was titled due to the  fact that the original recording of the song was much longer than the final version, as the band would often deviate from the arrangement into less structured jams. The track required numerous edits to shorten it. The end result was spliced together from many sections of recording. Winter frequently refers to the appropriateness of the name also in relation to its "monster-like, lumbering beat".

And just like that, the month of Rocktober is over

I’d like to thank my ride or die participants, Curious as a Cathy and AC Melody.  I’ll be doing this blog hop again next year and I hope that more of you will plan to join in. There is just too much good rock music to share!

Be sure to stop by tomorrow as it is a new month and time for the next Battle of the Bands! The contestants need your votes!

  1. Mary,

I don't know why it is I never remember this song title but the mewsic is definitely distinquishable. I had no clue how this track got its name, so I asked Google. Yeah, I know I somehow glossed over your brief description of the song's backstory. It's still early and I'm just on my first up of coffee. :) It was during the splicing process that the drummer, Chuck Ruff, proclaimed, "Wow, man it's like Frankenstein." Really groovy, fun song for Halloween. Thank you for hosting the fun all month long and for the shout out. I'm glad to read you want to do this again next year. Have a spooktacular day!

  2. I always liked that song... The rest of band make it flow so well. I LOVE Chuck Ruff's drumming; the song seems as much a showcase for him as it does for Edgar. And Dan Hartman and Rick Derringer are right there, no matter how nuts Winter gets. Do you remember when Ronnie Montrose played guitar for this band?

    Great Rocktober!
