#4M #RocktoberMusicFest Hand Claps and Finger Snaps + #BOTB Results!

Monday is here again!  Our Musical Conductor for the month of October  is my good friend Michele from Angels Bark  and she has picked some challenging themes for this month.

AND… factoring in the #RocktoberMusicFest, this becomes a real challenge. But you know….

I do love a good challenge!

Today she has given us the theme of  “Songs with Hand Claps or Finger Snaps”

My first song is a favorite of mine. I love the high energy of the song, and it just makes my heart smile when I hear it.  I recommend turning this one “up to eleven” and enjoy it at full volume!

My second song is a new favorite. I just can’t stop myself from liking this one. The more I listen to it, the more it grows on me. I hope that it will soon be a favorite of yours, too.  These guys are not really a rock group, but more of a folk-bluegrass group. So, while they don’t fit the ‘Rock’ part of the Rocktober MusicFest, I would be remiss if I didn’t include them in this post about hand claps and finger snaps.

And just a super quick note about the Oct 1 Battle of the Bands!

It was a really tight race. Mr Stephen wondered if the lead singer would be someone he could take home to meet his momma.  Oh, Mr Stephen. You done opened a big ol' can of worms there! Of course, I had to research a little bit more about the band.  Julia Pierce was only 11 when she helped form the band in 2008. The video was posted in 2011. By my calculations, if you lived in the outback of Arkansas, you could take her home to your momma as she would have been about 14 at the time. Of course, now that a few more years have passed since 2011,  she should be legal in all 50 states. but just barely.

The battle came out to be a tie vote. So I cast my vote as tie-breaker

The final outcome of the battle:

Cherri Bomb with 8 votes
The Harleys with 7 votes

  1. Aw, man....I love love LOVE ELO, and am so disappointed that this song never even crossed my mind. The Dead South were new to me, but I absolutely love bluegrass, so thanks for introducing me to them! I got my first Rocktober post included with Music Monday, too, so I am glad it's okay to do that!

    1. YAY! So glad that you are joining me today in Rocktober! I accidentally found The Dead South a month or so ago. For some reason YouTube wanted to recommend them to me. The song is really catchy. If you want a good laugh, check out their song "Banjo Odyssey". ELO is another one of my favorites and I've always loved this particular song.

      I'll be around soon!

  2. Mary,

You can never go wrong with the super band ELO and like Kim I can't believe this song didn't cross my mind, either. *smack forehead* The Dead South is a new band introduction but you're right this song has a really catch tune. I opening whistles to the song I loved as well as the banjo. Thanks for sharing and for boogieing with the 4M crew, dearie. Have a finger-snapping, hand-clapping good ole day! :)

    1. Thanks Cathy!

This was a really fun one to put together. When I sat down and starting writing out my posts for the month, the #4M posts were the first to get written. Next were the battle posts, and now all that is left are the blanks -which are proving to be pretty easy to fill as well. I do love my music. See you around the 'spere.

    1. Hey Driller!

You should definitely check them out. I found myself binging on their music for a bit before I had to set them aside to work on my Rocktober posts. But every now and again, I need a 'cleansing of the palate' so to speak and give them another listen.

Thanks so much for stopping in with a comment.

  8. Hey Girl,
Geez, has a week gone by already??! Holy crow! Ay-yi-yi...

GREAT pics for today's theme. I love ELO! I never even gave them a thought! That is such a great song and sure brings back the memories.

I love the new-to-me song "In Hell I'll Be in Good Company" -- Hey, I like this band too. That is some awesome pickin' on that banjo! And a double treat, they have finger snappin' and a whistlin'... That's a score fo' sure!
The Dead South: I'll have to check them out some more. Thanks for the intro.

Girl I have to go back and see who I voted for in your battle. I think I went with the Harleys, didn't I? I think I can't remember because I liked both...
GREAT outcome! super close! GREAT JOB!

sorry this week got away from me and I haven't had a chance to do another #RocktoberMusicFest post. But I'll get one in this week. I promise.

Thanks for playing along with my theme. I hope you enjoyed it, at least a little... :)

    1. Hey Michele!

Let me tell you ... this week has gone by so quickly! It's like there aren't enough hours in the day to get everything done. Tomorrow (okay, technically later today as it's 1AM) I am setting aside a few hours to do some much needed laundry. With my luck, the 'cute one' will stop by and interrupt that as well.

Looking forward to the next theme and don't forget next week is battle of the bands again!

Have a good week, and I'll be seeing you around the blogosphere.

  9. Great idea and post, Mary! You're right; this Dead South tune is great stuff! Always loved ELO and "Don't Bring Me Down"; I think Jeff Lynne is a musical genius. Between classic ELO, newer ELO ("When I was a Boy" and "Alone in the Universe"), solo stuff ("Blown Away" and "What would It Take"), Traveling Wilburys, producing George Harrison's Cloud 9 ("Got My Mind Set on You" and "When We was Fab"), producing Tom Petty's Full Moon Fever ("Free Fallin" and "I Won't Back Down"), producing Roy Orbison's Mystery Girl ("You Got It"), and producing The Beatles Anthology ("Free as a Bird" and "Real Love"), Lynne set himself apart as a gifted producer who is my favorite.

    1. Hey Arnold!

Great to see you here. I think you are right about Jeff Lynne. it's as if he has that midas touch. It's not hard to see him as an easy favorite - although I thought Roger 'whatisname' from Supertramp was your favorite.

Are you still planning on retiring and moving to Hawaii soon?

I need to get to bed so I can do this all over again tomorrow. Rocktober is proving to be a very busy month!

Thanks for stopping in with your 2セント

  10. That second tune: I don't think I've ever seen a cello played like that. I like it!

You can never go wrong with Jeff Lynne and ELO. He was very close to George Harrison and a lot of George's humor rubbed off on him.

    1. The cello player certainly does have a different style of playing.

The other day a friend and I were pondering out loud what might have become of the Traveling Wilburys had Roy not died. It's sad to think that only Jeff Lynne and Bob Dylan are the only ones left from that group.

  11. You certainly ended up with a battle of parity. Nice match.

I like the look of the Dead South group and the video and the sound of the song, but don't care much for the lyrics and sentiment of the song.

    1. Lee, if you think this song from the Dead South are bad, you should hear their Banjo Odyssey. Let's just say I'll stay away from family reunions for awhile.

  12. That was a dern close Battle, MMQE!

And that's my favorite thing in BOTB, when I get to determine the winner with my own vote. Nice!

See ya again in only 4 days away from now in the near future before very long. (Is that clear?)

I am all set for Monday's battle. While I don't know that it will be as close as this one, it's an idea I came up with a few months ago. I was struggling to come up with a decent battle then, and penciled this one in for Halloween. If nothing else, it will be fun. Yeah. We'll go with that. Fun. Are you convinced?

See you in a few days! (not literally, but figuratively)

  13. The Dead South - new to me, and I have to say, I think I would really enjoy this band live. The song got better as it progressed. And ELO - why didn't I think of them? So many great songs in this catagory.
