#RocktoberMusicFest : John Parr - Naughty Naughty

It’s Friday. Let’s kick it up a notch and get this party going!

John Parr is a musician from England. He is best known for his 1985 US number one hit single "St. Elmo's Fire (Man in Motion)"

Well, that’s not very rock-like, is it?

No. It isn’t.   However…

In 1984, John Parr had another hit single that gets regular play on the Classic Rock station that I listen to the most.  Just prior to this single’s release, John Parr had worked with Meat Loaf on his Bad Attitude album. It was just after the Bad Attitude album that John Parr tried to make a career as a solo artist.

Naughty Naughty was John Parr’s first US Top 40 hit. Actress Lisa Rinna plays his love interest in the video.

In 1985 St Elmo’s Fire was released, and it seems that John Parr returned to working with other artists sharing the stage and writing with Roger Daltrey, Tina Turner, Marilyn Martin, Tom Jones, The Monkees, Tygers of Pan Tang, Romeo's Daughter David Essex and Bucks Fizz.

in 2018 John returned to the studio to begin work on his seventh album and to do some shows close to his heart, namely The BBC Tracks of My Years show with Ken Bruce, The Story Behind the song for the BBC One Show anchored by Carrie Grant and Foreigner’s 40th Anniversary tour, culminating at the Albert Hall and laterly as special guest for Jeff Beck.

Another side piece of trivia:
One of Parr's sons, Ben, an actor is best known for the role of Freddie in the soap Hollyoaks. His first appearance was in the episode broadcast on 4 January 2007. He also appeared in the BBC drama The Curse of Steptoe.

Turn up that volume and enjoy!

  1. Mary,

I think I recall John Parr by name but I not remember this song. It wasn't until I went to YT to check out more of his mewsic that I noticed "St. Elmo's Fire" is his song. I don't think I would've recognized my girl crush Lisa Rinna had you not mention who it is. WOW, she's so young in this video but then I was young in 1985, too. lol Thanks for hosting the mewsic fun every day this month, my friend. Have a furtastic week!

    1. You're doing about as well as I am, Cathy! Another one of those artists that I have trouble connecting the dots on. I know both of the songs, but it just seems so crazy that they are both done by the same guy.

      Thanks again for joining in!

  2. Wow, what a difference from St. Elmo's Fire. This is another new song for me, but I love that the first sound you hear is a torque wrench, that's just a bonus, though I'm sure it's only for the video.

    1. I think it is just for the video, but I'm not quite sure. I get so involved in the song that I forget to pay attention some times. Glad that I could introduce you to something new.
