#SongLyricSunday #RocktoberMusicFest : Times Like These

Time again for Song Lyric Sunday!

The Idea was formed by Helen @ This Thing Called Life One Word At A Time. She has presented us with the word prompt of GIVE/GIVING for this week.

I started out this month with one of my favorite bands of all time, and it looks as though I get to use them again today.  One can never have too much Dave Grohl in their life, right?

“Times Like These” is the second single off One By One, and a song with much symbolism regarding that album’s production. After the early unsuccessful recording sessions, Dave Grohl decided the band had to take a break, and accepted an invitation to play drums for Queens of the Stone Age. However, at a certain point he missed the Foo Fighters, and wrote “Times Like These” to express how “the band disappearing for those two or three months and me feeling like I wasn’t entirely myself.” It was the first of three new compositions brought to the re-recording of One by One in Grohl’s Virginia home studio, along with “Low” and “Disenchanted Lullaby”.

This song has been a personal favorite of mine for years, and has helped give me the strength to pick myself up and carry on again.

Times Like These

I, I'm a one way motorway
I'm the one that drives away
Then follows you back home
I, I'm a street light shining
I'm a wild light blinding bright
Burning off alone

It's times like these you learn to live again
It's times like these you give and give again
It's times like these you learn to love again
It's times like these time and time again

I, I'm a new day rising
I'm a brand new sky
To hang the stars upon tonight
I am a little divided
Do I stay or run away
And leave it all behind?

It's times like these you learn to live again
It's times like these you give and give again
It's times like these you learn to love again
It's times like these time and time again

It's times like these you learn to live again
It's times like these you give and give again
It's times like these you learn to love again
It's times like these time and time again

It's times like these you learn to live again
It's times like these you give and give again
It's times like these you learn to love again
It's times like these time and time again

It's times like these you learn to live again
It's times like these you give and give again
It's times like these you learn to love again
It's times like these time and time again

    1. There's an acoustic version out there as well, that really places emphasis on the lyrics.
