#RocktoberMusicFest : Cream - White Room

Thursday has us looking forward to the weekend. At least it does for me.

I think I’m going to stick with classic rock for today.  Hope that okay with you :)

Our band today has been widely regarded as the world’s first supergroup. Eric Clapton had already established himself as a blues guitarist with The Yardbirds, and Ginger Baker was drummer for Graham Bond Organisation. Jack Bruce had once played with Graham Bond Organisation. While in Bond’s band, Bruce and Baker were notorious for not getting along - onstage fights and sabotaging each other’s instruments. But Clapton insisted that Baker invite Bruce to join their band. Surprisingly, Baker and Bruce put aside their differences for the sake of the new band.  The trio were considered to be the ‘cream of the crop’, hence the band name ‘Cream’.

White Room was recorded for their 1968 double album ‘Wheels of Fire’. Later in the year, they took out the third verse to shorten the song for airplay and released it as a single for AM Stations. FM Stations were already playing the full-length album version.

Enjoy today’s piece of Rock History… and let’s see what tomorrow brings

  1. Mary,

I've learned over the months and years just how big Eric Clapton's career is. He's an pAwesome guitarist and songwriter and singer. Thanks for hosting the song-a-day fun this month, my friend!

  2. "White Room" is the first time I heard anyone use a wah-wah pedal.

I can imagine Jack and Ginger were at each other's throats: Jack was very erudite, while Ginger... wasn't...

  3. I kind of recall this song, but had no idea who sang it or the history behind the band's origins, thanks for the backstory! :) Eric Clapton during much of his solo career, was one of my mom's favorites. Him and Stevie Ray Vaughan.
