#BattleOfTheBands Results : Alabama v. Bananarama

The December 1 battle has come to a close. Hopefully everyone has cast a vote in that battle by now. If not, there’s always the battle happening on the 15th.

In this battle, I used two different songs of the same title. “Love In The First Degree”
The contenders were country musicians Alabama and 80s pop group Bananarama.

I honestly had no idea what the outcome was going to be like, as I like both groups, and both songs.

At first, Alabama took a strong lead, but then those girls woke up and the votes started rolling in for them. After Bananarama caught up, it was a lot like watching a tennis match.  Eventually, the girls took a lead, but did they win?

Let’s find out!

The final tally -

Alabama with 7 votes
Bananarama with 8 votes

And Two poor souls who couldn’t be bothered with a vote.

I’m trying hard to get into the Christmas spirit.  It’s a bit of a struggle for me. So much happiness and joy and here I am, not liking people in general.  Yes. I’m a bit of a Grinch, or perhaps Scrooge, as I just busy myself with work.  Speaking of work - I’ve started a new venture. Some of you may have heard me share a little about it. My Thanksgiving captors (friendly/family) are published authors.  They had invited a few of their friends over for dinner, who, coincidentally are authors as well.  Over the course of dinner discussion, I was somehow wrangled into helping these guys out. One major task is to do some proofreading / copy editing preparing a trilogy for publication.  The other major task is to help get them some reviews on their books and eventually some sales.  So I resuscitated my Literary Gold blog for a third (and hopefully final) time. I’ll be using it for communicating with my newly formed Literary Gold Street Team.  If you’d like to join the Street Team, just click the subscribe button on this page and fill out the form.   Also, if you’re an author, I’m willing to help you out as well. The more the merrier, as they say. Get in while the price is right (Free) because once my street team grows and we get going at a good pace, that price is going to increase.

Okay, back to getting into the Christmas spirit…  I found two Christmas songs done by our two contenders.

What did you think of this battle? Did your vote go to the winner?

Be sure to come back on the 15th for another battle. I’ve got a new-to-me Christmas tune that will be battled out.

I'm not one for Christmas spirit, either...

      Good One!

And speaking of not being in the Christmas spirit... Just you wait and see what I've got up my sleeve for Monday!

That was quite a good Battle (even if the synthetic triumphed). However, I didn't see a mention of how YOUR own vote went. You're not one of those "two poor souls who couldn’t be bothered with a vote", are ya?
    [;o)

Hokey-Smoke! It's a good thing G DogG stopped by with his vote. HE is apparently the person responsible for Rama beating Bama in this Battle. (I shan't forgive him for that any time too soon.)

In his previous comment, he said something about me having an exquisitely sculpted jaw. (Or something along those lines. I'm too lazy to go back and quote it precisely.)

Back in 1965, I had sent in 66 Ovaltine box tops and 25-cents in a self-addressed envelope for a Little Orphan Annie decoder ring. But when the mailman finally delivered the package, it contained one exquisitely sculpted jaw instead. I've been bummed out about that for the last 53 years!

The good news, however, is that contrary to what G DogG may have feared, I never have suspected he was hitting on me. Despite his highly questionable taste in music... ;o) ...I have no doubt whatsoever that Mr. DogG is a [Link> "Confident Heterosexual".

    1. Well, now Mr McCarthy...

I wouldn't exactly say that it was Mr DogG's vote that cinched the vote. In fact, his vote put 'Rama in a three vote lead. And then Cherdo and Sheena came in afterward with 2 more votes for 'Bama closing that gap.

I rarely vote in my battles. I suppose that makes me a bit of a hypocrite.

Did you see my addition to my page? A lightbulb went on over my head after reading John's results - and I have added the BOTB Master to my page. Anyone can view - but only you and I have the ability to edit. I'll be sure to mention the link in my Dec 15th battle.

Great idea to put the BOTB Master Sheet on your blog as a permanent addition! (I probably couldn't figure out how to edit it even if I wanted to. So... you might want to add that in the very first Battle - FAE doing 'Summertime', Nina Simone got 8 votes & Muse got 3.)

      >>... I rarely vote in my battles. I suppose that makes me a bit of a hypocrite.

You said it, not me. ;o)

Nah, nah - that ain't how ya do math! Had Mr. DogG not voted, Rama wouldn't have beaten Bama. (*THAT'S* how ya do math!!)

    3. Math was never my friend, especially when they started adding the alphabet to the mix. You want me to find x? It's an x. Life tells us we shouldn't seek out our exes. No wonder these Math people don't have many relationships. They just don't understand.

I've fixed the tally for FAE's first battle. At one point I thought about adding links to the actual battles and results, rather than just the main link to the blogs, but that's a lot of work.

      Ha! B-I-N-G-O-!

Yeah, math was always my worst subject. Letters were my friends; numbers my archenemies!

Yep! That would be a ton of work to link to all the Battles and their Results. Besides that, your spreadsheet already contains more than enough information for a person to pretty easily find a specific Battle via a Google search.

Thanks again for all your record-keeping. It has come in handy for me, and it will become even more valuable as time goes on and more Battles pile up.

For quite awhile, I could tell you if a song had been used before, and who the artists were, and who hosted the Battle. But eventually the info just became too overwhelming for my 59-year-old brain. And now, 5+ years into BOTB, I couldn't even remember that John had already done that exact same Battle not all that long ago.

    5. McS-ManBuddy,

My vote didn't win for Bananarama, rather the heretofore group known as Gang Of Eight.

Yet doing the moonwalk - backward on a waxed kitchen floor, "I helped Bananarama win!"

You were, in Hollywood, and surely still are a triple threat. Good actor, good writer, and not a bad looking gent to boot.* The latter third of which is something you're born with... Which people don't generally like compliments about something they're born with, like, "I didn't do anything!" And they should, by golly. That's born lucky to be proud of - the latter one-third of the triple threat could have been natural born tap dancer.

You still crack me... "up to eleven".

Moonwalking backwards -- you are some kind of warlock!

Yeah, I'm a triple threat: snoring, halitosis, and drunken staggering into precious family heirlooms. (Fortunately, I'm not gassy. Otherwise I'd be a quadruple threat.)

Great video clip. I swear, 'Mighty Wind' is so close to 'Spinal Tap' that I'm not always 100% sure I (slightly) prefer the latter. It's more subtle - not quite as over-the-top as 'Tap' - which is probably why it remains underappreciated. I own both movies on DVD and have probably watched them an equal number of times.

  3. That was quite a contest! My results will go up on Monday, but I'm confident that Alabama will win mine by a lot of votes.

    1. Hi Lee!

It really did turn out better than I expected. I realize I half-assed this battle, so I'm quite happy with the results. I'm certain that Alabama will pleased as pie that they made up for their loss here with your battle.

  4. Excellent battle, Mary. I like very much that your songs were so different. If pop was a football field, each side would start at the goal line... Bananarama for the touchdown! Of the two opposite songs each person likely had an easy vote - immediate reaction - "I like this" vs "I like that." It's interesting to see which side each person lined up on.

    1. Hey there GMann

I like that you liked my battle. I do try to 'spice' it up a bit every now and then. I thought for sure this one was going to be a big flop as I had pretty much 'phoned it in'. So very happy that it turned out the way that it did.

My Dec 15 battle is going to be a Christmas song. But it's a new-to-me song so it will be very interesting to see how it turns out.

Thank you so much for stopping in and voting and for keeping McCarthy in line.
