#BattleOfTheBands : Crazy, Round Three
Howdy! Guess what day it is?!?
If you guessed it was Battle of the Bands day, then you guessed correctly!
We’re on Round Three of the Crazy Battle this week. That means these two contenders for today are battling it out for third place in the tournament.
Now, if you didn’t have an opportunity to vote in the first or second round, don’t worry - you can still participate in this round’s voting.
On May 1st, the two winning contenders from rounds One and Two will compete for First and Second Place.
Alrighty then.. Let’s do this!
As a reminder for you seasoned readers and to help out those of you who may be new here
Here is how a battle works:
Step One - Listen to each of the contenders. TRY not to be persuaded by the videos
Step Two - Pick the contender that you prefer the most (not just the one with the name you are familiar with)
Step Three - Comment with your selection. The comment section has been set up so that anyone can leave a comment. I do ask that you please include your name, should you use the anonymous feature.
Step Four - Visit Stephen’s blog to check out his battle and for a list of other bloggers that have have battles going on. We each have different battles, so please be sure to visit everyone. I'll provide a link below the videos to Stephen's blog for your convenience.
Wikipedia tells us this about the song:
"Crazy" is the debut single by the American soul duo Gnarls Barkley (a group consisting of Danger Mouse and CeeLo Green), taken from their 2006 debut album St. Elsewhere. It peaked at number two on the Billboard Hot 100, and topped the charts in the United Kingdom, Denmark, Canada, the Republic of Ireland, New Zealand and other countries.
The song was leaked in late 2005, months before its regular release, and received a lot of airplay on BBC Radio 1 in the United Kingdom, most notably by radio DJ Zane Lowe, who also used the song in television commercials for his show. When it was finally released in March 2006, it became the first single to top the UK Singles Chart on download sales alone. The song remained at the top of the British charts for nine weeks (which no other song had achieved in over ten years, and was only surpassed by Rihanna's "Umbrella" in July 2007) before the band and their record company decided to remove the single from music stores in the country so people would "remember the song fondly and not get sick of it". In spite of this deletion, the song became best-selling single of 2006 in the UK. Due to continued download sales, it reached one million copies in January 2011. In December 2006, it was nominated for the United Kingdom's Record of the Year but lost to "Patience" by Take That.
The song won a Grammy Award for Best Urban/Alternative Performance in 2007, and was also nominated for Record of the Year, which it lost to "Not Ready to Make Nice" by Dixie Chicks. It was also nominated and further won a 2006 MTV Europe Music Award for Best Song. The song was also named the best song of 2006 by Rolling Stone and by The Village Voice's annual Pazz & Jop critics poll. The song was listed at number 11 on Pitchfork Media's top 500 songs of the 2000s. The song is also in the number 60 place in the list of the best songs ever of Acclaimed Music. In 2010, it was placed at number 100 in the "updated" version of Rolling Stone's list of "The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time" and ranked at the top position of Rolling Stone's top 100 songs of the decade (2000–2009). "Crazy" was notably performed at the 2006 MTV Movie Awards, with Danger Mouse and CeeLo dressed as various Star Wars characters.
Contender #1 - Sheridan Smith
Contender #2 - Alice Jayne
Now, to repeat myself again:
YOU DON’T NEED TO BE FAMILIAR WITH AN ARTIST OR A SONG TO KNOW WHICH ONE YOU PREFER. You only need to listen to the videos and choose which one sounds better to you. There are no right or wrong votes, unless you vote for someone not listed as a contender or don’t vote at all.

Are you looking for today's #4M (Monday's Music Moves Me) post? Sorry, I didn't do one for this week. I haven't felt well this past week and just couldn't find the inspiration for the post. BUT - I've got a fun little interactive post going on for the #AtoZChallenge, so I hope you'll join me there!
I hope you all don't mind that I'm using this post as my #4M post as well today. Below is the linky for Monday's Music Moves Me.
I hope you feel better soon, Mary. My vote goes to Sheridan Smith. The galloping beat of Alice Jayne's version wasn't too pleasing on the old ears.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Debbie.
DeleteIt really sucks not feeling well, especially during the month of April. Thanks for all of the shares. That really means a lot to me.
~Mary
I can imagine how difficult it is this month! :( You're welcome for the shares. I added your feed to my automatic dlvr.it posting list.
DeleteI was initially put off by that "galloping beat" as Debbie describes it, but then I started getting into it and decided it sounded crazier than the first version. Sheridan started feeling a bit tired to me as the song progressed.
ReplyDeleteI"m giving my vote to Alyce Jane. Golly shucks!
Arlee Bird
Tossing It Out
Thanks, Lee!
DeleteI find them both to be a bit endearing. This has turned out to be a pretty decent tournament.
Thanks for stopping by!
~Mary
Get better soon. Alyce Bird's version gets my vote.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Patrick!
DeleteI hope I feel better soon, too!
Okay, flashback to the last battle where I could have gone either way...agreed with all of Stephen T. McCarthy's comments but voted for the first contender...now, nothing stands in the way of my vote for ALICE JAYNE.
ReplyDeleteThanks, and best wishes!

Thanks, Cherdo!
DeleteShe has a definitely interesting sound. BTW, I've been enjoying your A2Z series as well - even though I haven't commented much, but I do read them. I see myself a few too many times in some of the topics. ha!
Awwww Hope you feel better real soon my friend. Being sick is a bummer. Anyway, your first tune I like her voice.. and once she sang the part about being crazy I finally recognized the song. No. 2 I think with it going to a faster beat just wasn't comin' to me. I go with the first one for sure. The second one I had to figure out to much & I didn't like that guy. He treated her like crap. Ya know what I mean. Yeah the first one is my choice because it had more feeling. hehehehe That was fun... thanks!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Marie!
DeleteI do appreciate you stopping in with your vote. I promise the next round will be much better :)
Mary,
ReplyDeleteAm I going crazy? For a split second I thought you used both artists again. I had to check your BoTB Master list to make sure I wasn't going crazy. Well...I'm crazy in the head for thinking you'd use the same two artists again. In this round, I've gotta go with Sheridan Smith because I'm crazy over her vocals! Excellent showdown!
Hit the 4M dance floor with me & cast your vote in my latest #BoTB
Hiyas Cathy!
DeleteSame artists, different battle. Sheridan Smith was the non-winner for round one and Alyce Jayne was the non-winner for round two. The next round will be with the other two contenders as the vie for first and second place.

ReplyDelete>>... I haven't felt well this past week and just couldn't find the inspiration for the post.
Oh, puhleeze! Stop feeling sorry fer yerself and Man-Up! "There's no crying in blogging!"
>>... these two contenders for today are battling it out for third place
Oh, no, No, NO!
I'm sorry, but I just don't vote for losers.
I'll wait until you match-up the two winners and vote then. My vote and self-esteem are just too valuable to weigh-in on "also rans".
Ha! Who am I kidding? You know me too well, MMQE.
Like Dr. Johnny Fever, I eat over the kitchen sink. I think Bar-B-Q flavored potato chips taste just like they've spent time over the grill.
OK, I'll vote (and add a little class to this sad-sack group of low-self-esteem opinionators)...
Wow! I listened to Sheridan Smith (S.S. - I dig Nazis like me) and thought: Sure! I'm gonna vote for her!
Then I heard ALICE JAYNE and thought: Hokey-Smoke! I voted for her the last time! What the hell is she doing in the 'Loser's Competition'??!! What the hell'z wrong with Mary's voters?
Well, A. Jayne can sing like crazy, and the band behind her ample behind is damn good! Everything about her rendition is GR-R-REAT! The only things I hate are her tattoos and the pig-snout ring in her snout! That's truly PA-A-ATHETIC! Because she's way too good, way too talented to be acting like a "Millennial Poseur"!
Until Alice Jayne loses the tattoos and the pig-snout ring, she will have ZERO chance of picking me up in a Carson City bar. (And that's really super-sad because I'm - well, you've heard of Slim Pickens? - I'm EZ Pickens! But not for Tattooed, Pig-Snout-Ring Alice I'm NOT!! I may eat over the kitchen sink, but not with a nose-ringed tattooed woman I won't! She can find HER OWN sink!)
For a guy who started out by saying he refused to vote for losers, I sure wrote a lotta letters, didn't I?

>>,,,Oh, puhleeze! Stop feeling sorry fer yerself and Man-Up! "There's no crying in blogging!"
DeleteWhen you are menopausal, you don't need a reason to cry. It just happens. But that's not why I'm not feeling well. Some days my past life torments me, and then there are days when I get so busy I forget to eat. And this lack of sleep thing? Don't even get me started!
>>...I'm sorry, but I just don't vote for losers.
Well, good thing these contenders aren't losers. They're just non-winners in their particular battles.
>>,,,What the hell is she doing in the 'Loser's Competition'??!! What the hell'z wrong with Mary's voters?
Ain't nuttin' wrong with the voter's. The contenders just didn't fare as well when put up against the others.
I'll be sure to pen a letter to Alice Jayne to let her know that as soon as she loses that snot-catcher she's all yours :)
I'm a bit slow making my rounds to the other battles. I'll have to come see who's duking it out at your place.

MARY, MARY, QUITE EXTRAORDINARY ~
DeleteIn all seriousness, I hope you're feeling much better. And if you aren't, I hope you are very soon.
I also hope you didn't think I was being callous with my previous comment. Of course you know the old adage, "Laughter is the best medicine". So, I was just trying to lighten things up. But maybe my timing wasn't so hot. As that other equally true adage goes, "Timing is everything".
Take care o' yerself. And I suggest a 30 mg. prescription for Temazepam for that sleeping problem. That stuff works wonders for me!! Nothing's better for getting a good night sleep, and it doesn't leave me feeling groggy in the morning, either.

Oh Stephen.....
DeleteI ain't mad at ya. I was being just as sarcastic as you. (okay, maybe just a tad less, but the sarcasm was still there).
Was up late again, and then overslept - then to top it off I took a short nap this afternoon. Just gotta get my clock back into sync. I'll have to check out that Temazepam suggestion.
Hoping to make it to the rest of the battle gang this evening.

MARY ~
Delete>>... I ain't mad at ya.
OK, I'm genuinely glad to hear that.
Not everyone gets me all the time (myself included). I am SO-OOO-ooo misunderstood. ("Aww, poor baby.")
Yeah, Temazepam - 30 mg. capsules, which you can actually twist apart and take a 15 mg. dose when you want just 3 hours of sleep rather than 6, 7, or 8. Great stuffs! I keep telling people with sleeping problems about it but no one listens to me. Fine! Let 'em toss 'n' turn all night! Serves 'em right!

STMcC Presents BATTLE OF THE BANDS
Oooh, this is a tough Battle as both girls are so talented and their versions are so good. But I love Sheridan Smith's version better because it such a badass version. And it is a slow burn that I like.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Amy!
DeleteThis has been a fun tournament with lots of talent. Can't wait to see the final outcome :)
Sheridan Smith gets my vote!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Mike!
