#BattleOfTheBands : Crazy Championship

Time for the Championship Round for this ‘Crazy’ Tournament.  My intent was originally just let this be a regular battle - but I found 4 excellent contenders and as I was putting it together, I decided that a tournament would be fun to determine where they all fall into place.

So, to recap the previous battles:

Round One had Glass Animals taking on Sheridan Smith.  The outcome was 8-4 with Glass Animals taking that round.

Round Two paired Scary Pockets featuring Dannielle DeAndrea with Alice Jayne. Scary Pockets took the lead with 7-3

Round Three had Sheridan Smith and Alice Jayne squaring off for Third Place.  That round was very very close, with Mike swooping in to break the tie vote giving Sheridan Smith the win. The votes were 5-4.

Now it’s time to determine who will take First and Second Place.

Who will take home the Championship of Crazy?

Watch the videos and listen and then cast your vote for your favorite of the two in the comments below.

As a reminder for you seasoned readers and to help out those of you who may be new here

Here is how a battle works:

Step One - Listen to each of the contenders. TRY not to be persuaded by the videos

Step Two - Pick  the contender that you prefer the most (not just the one with the name you are familiar with)

Step Three - Comment  with your selection. The comment section has been set up so that anyone can leave a comment. I do ask that you please include your name, should you use the anonymous feature.

Step Four - Visit Stephen’s blog to check out his battle and for a list of other bloggers that have have battles going on. We each have different battles, so please be sure to visit everyone. I'll provide a link below the videos to Stephen's blog for your convenience.

Okay! Let's all have a deliriously good time!

Wikipedia tells us this about the song:

"Crazy" is the debut single by the American soul duo Gnarls Barkley (a group consisting of Danger Mouse and CeeLo Green), taken from their 2006 debut album St. Elsewhere. It peaked at number two on the Billboard Hot 100, and topped the charts in the United Kingdom, Denmark, Canada, the Republic of Ireland, New Zealand and other countries.

The song was leaked in late 2005, months before its regular release, and received a lot of airplay on BBC Radio 1 in the United Kingdom, most notably by radio DJ Zane Lowe, who also used the song in television commercials for his show. When it was finally released in March 2006, it became the first single to top the UK Singles Chart on download sales alone. The song remained at the top of the British charts for nine weeks (which no other song had achieved in over ten years, and was only surpassed by Rihanna's "Umbrella" in July 2007) before the band and their record company decided to remove the single from music stores in the country so people would "remember the song fondly and not get sick of it". In spite of this deletion, the song became best-selling single of 2006 in the UK. Due to continued download sales, it reached one million copies in January 2011. In December 2006, it was nominated for the United Kingdom's Record of the Year but lost to "Patience" by Take That.

The song won a Grammy Award for Best Urban/Alternative Performance in 2007, and was also nominated for Record of the Year, which it lost to "Not Ready to Make Nice" by Dixie Chicks. It was also nominated and further won a 2006 MTV Europe Music Award for Best Song. The song was also named the best song of 2006 by Rolling Stone and by The Village Voice's annual Pazz & Jop critics poll. The song was listed at number 11 on Pitchfork Media's top 500 songs of the 2000s. The song is also in the number 60 place in the list of the best songs ever of Acclaimed Music. In 2010, it was placed at number 100 in the "updated" version of Rolling Stone's list of "The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time" and ranked at the top position of Rolling Stone's top 100 songs of the decade (2000–2009). "Crazy" was notably performed at the 2006 MTV Movie Awards, with Danger Mouse and CeeLo dressed as various Star Wars characters.

Contender #1 - Glass Animals

Contender #2 - Scary Pockets featuring Dannielle DeAndrea

Now, to repeat myself again:

YOU DON’T NEED TO BE FAMILIAR WITH AN ARTIST OR A SONG TO KNOW WHICH ONE YOU PREFER. You only need to listen to the videos and choose which one sounds better to you.  There are no right or wrong votes, unless you vote for someone not listed as a contender or don’t vote at all.

  2. This is really tough for me. I like both of these a great deal. The Glass Animals have such a cool quirky sound--very interesting.

In the end though I've got to cast my vote with the smooth funk groove of Scary Pockets. Nice sound.

  4. MMQE ~

This was a fun tournament and both of these groups are very good. Scary Pockets are funky and Danielle's moves are as inspired as her glasses are big. But...

Gotta give my vote to GLASS ANIMALS. That singer is very soulful (for a White guy), and I dig the fact that those boys didn't fall for the tattoo fad.

Now... if only I can find me one of those stylish 'Office Depot / Old Spice' jackets to go with my cowboy hat and motorcycle boots.

      Have you checked ebay?

I agree this tournament has been a lot of fun. Now I get to buckle down and come up with something fresh and new for the 15th. I need more hours in my days...

  5. Glass Animals was boring, sorry. Scary pockets were a lot more fun to listen to and there was some variety there. I'm going with Scary Pockets.

No need to apologize. You feel how you feel. Own it.

  6. Mary,

This was a tough choice for me since I like both artists quite a bit but I prefer overall Glass Animals cover the best. The lead vocalist is soulful and easy on the ears. While I love Daniella's vibes and moves she gets a bit too brittle on the highs to suit me. I truly enjoyed her busking vid. I don't have a battle showdown this round but I'll be back at in on the 15th. ;)

I'm still recovering from April's shenanigans. Will have a full report of that in my reflections posts on Monday.

    2. Mary,

I had to doubt check to see how I voted. I'm still in recovery mode while continuing to keep on top of my normal blog routine once again. I'm feeling a bit crazy, too. :) Your Reflections post...I can't recall if I read it. I better double check that, too. *smack forehead*

  7. I have to say i prefer Glass Animals to Scary Pockets because i am not a big fan of her voice. I prefer the more quiet, unique style they did to this song

I like that they both brought something unique and fun to the table. That's what put them both in the top two spots. It's looking like a pretty tight battle so far...
