#4M: Off Course オフコースー

Welcome back for Monday’s Music Moves Me (aka #4M)

It’s another Free Choice Week!  Today’s band is one that was suggested to me by a good friend of mine.  Many many years ago, they introduced me to this band’s music.  I had completely forgotten about them until just recently when another friend posted a YouTube link and tagged the other friend.

Wikipedia tells us this about the band:
Off Course was one of Japan's most influential folk rock bands. It was formed in early 1969 by Kazumasa Oda and Yasuhiro Suzuki. It broke up in 1989 after a February 26 farewell performance at Tokyo Dome.

Here’s a sample of what they sound like:

  1. "Sayonara" (さよなら)
  2. Yes Yes Yes
  3. Love’s Determination
  4. Endless Nights
  5. Umarekuru kodomotachino tameni

Do you have a band from that performs in another language that you enjoy?

Alright now, you’ve heard me tease about #RocktoberMusicFest2019 and now I have the details for you!  In case you missed the announcement post - you can find those details HERE
I hope that you will join me in this month long event!

Today’s post is part of the Monday’s Music Moves Me blog hop, hosted by X-Mas Dolly, and co-hosted by JAmerican Spice, Stacy Uncorked, Curious as a Cathy. , and Ramblin with AM. Be sure to stop by the hosts and visit the other participants.  If you have a MUSIC* post, feel free to join in the fun! *sorry non-music posts are not permitted in this blog hop.

  4. Mary, you hit another one out of the park! Great memories. Off Course was one of my most favorite bands, and hearing this brings back a lot of good times. Thanks a million times!

  5. I had never heard of Off Course before, but their music sounds way more modern than I'd expected it to from the description, and from how long ago they broke up. I can't think offhand of any bands that perform in a foreign language that I enjoy, unless you count Thirty Seconds To Mars' cover of "Bad Romance," in which Jared Leto croons "J'Veux ton amour et je veux ta revanche J'Veux ton amour" in French. Because that? Sounds mighty enjoyable (even though it's "I want your love and I want your revenge" - I think.).

I'm participating this week and Linky will not let me link up, so my post is here if you'd like to come by when you get a chance!

  7. Mary,

It doesn't surprise me that I had not heard of this Japanesse band before now but like Kim pointed out they sound more modern than you'd think for a group that started at the end of the 60s. Thanks for sharing such a pretty song sound on the 4M dance floor. It's hard to believe the month is almost gone. Have a boogietastic week, darlin'!

  8. I had only heard of Off Course from (I suspect) the same blogger as you did, and this past week she posted another foreign language song I've fallen in love with. I may use the "foreign language" song theme in a future "Your Pick" week although most of mine are songs that just happened to hit the charts in the United States. Most of the Off Course songs in your sample are a bit slow for me - I'd need to be "in the mood" but, that is some of what music is all about - fitting music to your emotional needs of the moment. Thanks for the intro!

    1. Hi Alana

It was actually my good friend Arnold that introduced me to Off Course back in the 80's. Our mutual friend Kenn was the one that had posted the video on facebook that spurred this post. I try to write my posts in advance, and technically this one was written long before Amy included Off Course in her post last week.

  9. Thank you for the introduction to Off Course - I'm with Kim and Cathy in that they sound more 'modern' considering when they'd started. Thanks for the dance! Hope you're having an awesome weekend! :)
