#RMF2019: Billy Idol

Day 17 of #RocktoberMusicFest2019

Today we’re stepping a little toward Punk Rock.  I’m not a huge punk rocker, but I do like this guy’s music.

Wikipedia tells us this about Billy Idol:
William Michael Albert Broad, known professionally as Billy Idol, is an English musician, singer, songwriter, and actor. He first achieved fame in the 1970s emerging from the London punk rock scene as a member of Generation X. Subsequently, he embarked on a solo career which led to international recognition and made Idol a lead artist during the MTV-driven "Second British Invasion" in the United States. The name "Billy Idol" was inspired by a schoolteacher's description of him as "idle".

Here are 10 of his songs:

  1. Eyes Without A Face
  2. Rebel Yell
  3. White Wedding
  4. Dancing With Myself
  5. Flesh For Fantasy
  6. Hot In The City
  7. Mony Mony
  8. To Be A Lover
  9. Sweet Sixteen
  10. Cradle of Love

What are your thoughts on Billy Idol? Have you seen him in concert?

I’d love for you to join me in celebrating Rock Music this month. All you need to do is drop the link to your current Rock Music post in the comments. Be sure to code with html so the link is clickable.  (See the announcement post for instructions on that) And then visit everyone that has left their links.

  1. I *LOVE* me some Billy Idol! Your playlist is amazing; I love every one of the songs on it. I'm really fond of his cover of "L.A. Woman" as well. And have you heard the cover of "In The Summertime" for which he provided vocals? (If not, go look it up on YouTube NOW - it also has Slash and Derek Sheridan.) His voice sounds pretty damned great no matter what kind of song he's singing. I think he's one of our most under-rated singers.

I've managed to come up with TWO selections for my post for today - a double duty post with Writer's Workshop. I hope you get a chance to come by!

I'll be visiting everyone, but will have to be after I get home from work later this afternoon :)

    1. Hey there! Don't feel bad about being slow to make the rounds to everyone. I feel like I'm a day late and a dollar short - ALL Week! Let's hope I can pull it together and get back on track soon. I'll be by your post soon, I promise!

I was just telling Stephen about the LA Woman cover. I'd love to use it in a future battle, just need to find the right contender to match it up against.

    2. MMQE ~

I think you should use the Billy Idol cover of 'L.A. WOMAN' against The Doors' original. Trust me, it'll be OK. What could go wrong? (Would I lie to you?)

    3. well... I trust your opinion... but I still worry about yet another shutout or blowout.

Full of self-doubt, tonite, but I will give it some thought.

    4. NO! NO!! I was jus' jokin'. Don't do that! That would be begging for a shutout, and only by a genuine miracle would you avoid it. (Don't listen to me. EVER!)

  3. Billy Idol is such a cool guy! 😎 And I do like his music, as well, but I've never been to one of his concerts. "Rebel Yell' is kind of a personal anthem. Love the description of how he got his stage name! 😄

    1. I was trying to decide which of his songs I like best, and I'm just not sure I can pull out a favorite. I do rather like this setlist, so much fun!

  4. Shocking Blue, “Venus”

Billy Idol is one of those artists where, although I don't have any of his albums or singles and don't actively go out in search of his songs, I don't spin the dial when his songs come on.

    1. Now that you mention it.... I'm not positive that I have any of his albums in my collection, either. Hmmm.

  5. Mary,

Billy Idol has some good hits. I like tracks 'Eyes Without a Face', 'White Wedding', 'Mony Mony', & 'Sweet Sixteen' (new2me) of your playlist the best. Everything else is either ok or not a purrfect match to my ears. I appreciated listening to your set, though. Thanks for sharing!
