#RMF2019: Nirvana

Day 29 of #RocktoberMusicFest2019

Today’s band is another ‘Love them or Hate them’ band. But they were an important band in how they influenced a change in music genre.

Wikipedia tells us this about Steely Dan:
Nirvana was an American rock band formed in Aberdeen, Washington, in 1987. It was founded by lead singer and guitarist Kurt Cobain and bassist Krist Novoselic. Nirvana went through a succession of drummers, the longest-lasting and best-known being Dave Grohl, who joined in 1990. Though the band dissolved in 1994 after the death of Cobain, their music maintains a popular following and continues to influence modern rock and roll culture.

Here are 10 of their songs:

  1. Smells Like Teen Spirit
  2. Come As You Are
  3. Heart Shaped Box
  4. Lithium
  5. In Bloom
  6. All Apologies
  7. About A Girl
  8. Breed
  9. Something In The Way
  10. Territorial Pissings

Were you a fan of Nirvana? Do you believe Kurt died by suicide, or do you believe the conspiracy theories that Courtney Love is responsible for his death?

I’d love for you to join me in celebrating Rock Music this month. All you need to do is drop the link to your current Rock Music post in the comments. Be sure to code with html so the link is clickable.  (See the announcement post for instructions on that) And then visit everyone that has left their links.

  1. No conspiracy theories for me, just a sadness at another rock star self destruction. Truly, my favorite "Nirvana" song is the Weird Al takeoff on "Smells Like Teen Spirit". I actually like many of Nirvana's songs, and also recognize that, without Nirvana, we never would have had the Foo Fighters. My link: The World's On Fire

    1. What a sad world this would be without the Foo Fighters. Their music has had quite the influence on me and helped me through some tough times.

  2. Mary,

Nirvana hit my radar many years after their success. In fact, I think their mewsic may have not touched my ears, surely I'm not remembering right, until after I began blogging. Even if I had heard them eons ago there style wouldn't have appealed to me at the time. Today, I find enjoy the heavier stuff a bit more and I always recognize the talent even if it's a genre that's not my go-to choice. The month is coming to an end fast. 1. I'm with you, Cathy. Nirvana's music wasn't on my radar much when it was wildly popular. It wasn't until years later that I started listening to them more.

  3. I was never a fan. I think they were popular when I was singing the theme songs for Barney the Dinosaur and Shari Lewis and Lambchop ...
