#RMF2019: The Rolling Stones

Day 11 of #RocktoberMusicFest2019

Today’s band has been around since BEFORE I was born (and I’m no spring chicken!) and they are still touring and performing together.

Wikipedia tells us this about The Rolling Stones:
The Rolling Stones are an English rock band formed in London in 1962. The first stable line-up consisted of bandleader Brian Jones, Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Bill Wyman, Charlie Watts, and Ian Stewart. Stewart was removed from the official line-up in 1963 but continued to work with the band as a contracted musician until his death in 1985. The band's primary songwriters, Jagger and Richards, assumed leadership after Andrew Loog Oldham became the group's manager. Jones left the band less than a month before his death in 1969, having already been replaced by Mick Taylor, who remained until 1974. After Taylor left the band, Ronnie Wood took his place in 1975 and continues on guitar in tandem with Richards. Since Wyman's departure in 1993, Darryl Jones has served as touring bassist. The Stones have not had an official keyboardist since 1963, but have employed several musicians in that role, including Jack Nitzsche, Nicky Hopkins, Billy Preston, Ian McLagan, and Chuck Leavell.

Here are 10 of their songs:

  1. Paint It Black
  2. Angie
  3. (I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction
  4. Gimme Shelter
  5. Start Me Up
  6. Miss You
  7. Wild Horses
  8. Can’t You Hear Brown Sugar
  9. You Can’t Always Get What You Want
  10. Under My Thumb

Have you seen the Rolling Stones in concert? What do you think the secret is to their longevity?  Make a prediction - who will die first - Betty White or Keith Richards?

I’d love for you to join me in celebrating Rock Music this month. All you need to do is drop the link to your current Rock Music post in the comments. Be sure to code with html so the link is clickable.  (See the announcement post for instructions on that) And then visit everyone that has left their links.

  1. I've loved the Stones since Satisfaction first hit the air in 1965 (I was 10 at the time.) They started me on the road to rockchickbliss! 😄🤘 Excellent playlist! Will be great for listening with breakfast tomorrow.

We finally got to see them live in 2013. They had just as much energy then as they did in their early days. Rock music keeps you young, Mary! 👍 At least, that's been my experience. 😎 There was an article about Mick Jagger's quick recovery from his recent heart surgery. It said he trains like an athlete.

As for Keith, he seems indestructible. (Have you seen the memes about that? Funny! 😆) Betty does too, so it's a toss-up!

    Here's my #RMF2019 entry:

Next BOTB will also be a #RMF post.

Thanks for hosting this party! 🎵🎧🎈

    1. I think you may be right about the Rock Music keeping you young. Here's a fun fact: Satisfaction was the #1 song the week I was born. I've always been drawn to it.

I'll be popping by your Queen +Adam Lambert post in a bit. Looking forward to it as well as your BOTB post :)

  2. They've been around since before I was born, too, but I love them so much! I love all the songs you've included in your playlist, but I think "Time Is On My Side", "Far Away Eyes", "Sympathy For The Devil", "Honky Tonk Women", and "Hang Five" are my favorites!

Here is my selection for #RMF2019 as well as my Five For Friday post, which I've also only been semi-regularly keeping up with.

  3. Great Minds Think Alike. My post today is also about the Stones. I saw the Steel wheels tour at Shea Stadium in 1989. My daughter saw them at MetLife Stadium in August.

Keith Richards will outlive us all.

Here's my post: rocktober With The Rolling Stones

    1. Very cool. On an unrelated note, I was outside of Shea Stadium in October 1989 - my first trip to NYC - and my brother was showing me the sights. The first place we went to was the Twin Towers. I sure wish I could find my photos of that.

  5. Mary,

The Stones are an iconic group who just seem to keep goin' like the Energizer Bunny. I never considered myself a fan but you featured some of their best songs. 'Angie' reminds me of when I was a kid and I recall how the older girls played that tune frequently at lunch time. Nice playlist. Thanks for hosting the mewsical fun this month. Now to play catch up after being MIA last week in Blogosphere! ;)
