#RMF2019: Smashing Pumpkins

Day 31 of #RocktoberMusicFest2019

It’s the final day of our month long celebration of rock music. I’m a little sad to see it come to an end for another year. This has been the second year for the #RocktoberMusicFest, and I’m sure there will be more years in the future. Start planning now for next year’s event.  Keep an eye on the blog as I’ll be doing an announcement post a month or two prior as a reminder.

Today is also Halloween. I thought I would go with a band whose name is fitting for such an occasion.

Wikipedia tells us this about Smashing Pumpkins:
The Smashing Pumpkins are an American alternative rock band from Chicago, Illinois. Formed in 1988 by frontman Billy Corgan, D'arcy Wretzky, James Iha, and Jimmy Chamberlin, the band has undergone many line-up changes. The current lineup features Corgan, Chamberlin, Iha and guitarist Jeff Schroeder.

Here are 10 of their songs:

  1. 1979
  2. Tonight, Tonight
  3. Cherub Rock
  4. Today
  5. Bullet With Butterfly Wings
  6. Perfect
  7. Mayonaise
  8. Disarm
  9. Try, Try, Try
  10. Ava Adore

Are you a fan of Smashing Pumpkins? Have you ever seen them in concert?

A Huge thank you to everyone who joined in the fun this year. I hope to see you all join in again next year!

Don't forget to come back tomorrow for another round of Battle of the Bands!

  1. Mary,

It's been a fun and very busy October. I'm delighted I got a chance to play along nearly every day this month. I think I'll give next year should you entertain doing it again a bit more thought and try to get my posts done further inadvance.

What can say about Smashing Pumpkin? Not much. I only know the band by name and I couldn't tell you what songs they've done or if any charted. Everytime I read the group's name I envision pumpkins being smashed. I wonder if that's the inspiration of how they came up with such an unusual band name? Now curious about how they got their name, I found an article on bandnameexplained.com that quotes former band member D'Arcy Wretzky with the explanation.

Thanks for hosting the RMF party and allowing me play along, my friend. When you get a chance, please come by for today's feature song, 'Reflections' by Charlie Daniels. ;) Happy Halloween!

  2. It was fun participating in RMF now and again and you ended with the perfect band name. I remember the year my porch pumpkin jack o'lantern he carved with our then young son was smashed and my husband was so mad he never put another one out. Lesson learned. Please check out some Halloween scarecrows and a song: Scarecrow and Pumpkin

  5. I've never seen them in concert live, but I've enjoyed their music since the song "1969" came out. It used to get played on the radio a lot in L.A. I have their "Melancholy" album.
