Still No Satisfaction Battle of the Bands

No, your memory is not failing, and this is not an April Fool’s joke!

If you recall, on the last battle round, I mentioned there are four contenders that I wanted to use. Last battle had Devo and Otis Redding up against each other, and this battle has two more contenders - each with a sound of their own.

A little background on the song:

Keith Richards wrote "Satisfaction" in his sleep and recorded a rough version of the riff on a Philips cassette player. He had no idea he had written it. He said when he listened to the recording in the morning, there was about two minutes of acoustic guitar before you could hear him drop the pick and "then me snoring for the next forty minutes". Sources vary as to where this story happened. While they make reference to a hotel room at the Fort Harrison Hotel in Clearwater, Florida, a house in Chelsea and the London Hilton, Richards wrote in his most recent autobiography that he was in his flat in Carlton Hill, St. John's Wood. He specifies that Mick Jagger wrote the lyrics by the pool in Clearwater, four days before they went into the studio, hence the confusion.

As a reminder for you seasoned readers and to help out those of you who may be new here

Here is how a battle works:

Step One - Listen to each of the contenders. TRY not to be persuaded by the videos

Step Two - Pick  the contender that you prefer the most (not just the one with the name you are familiar with) Pick ONLY from the contenders provided in THIS battle.

Step Three - Comment  with your selection. The comment section has been set up so that anyone can leave a comment. I do ask that you please include your name, should you use the anonymous feature.

Step Four - Visit Stephen’s blog to check out his battle and for a list of other bloggers that have battles going on. We each have different battles, so please be sure to visit everyone. I'll provide a link below the videos to Stephen's blog for your convenience.

Now that we’ve got the formalities out of the way, let’s get to it!

Contender #1 -  Dead Bang

Contender #2 - Stringspace String Quartet

Now, to repeat myself:

YOU DON’T NEED TO BE FAMILIAR WITH AN ARTIST OR A SONG TO KNOW WHICH ONE YOU PREFER. You only need to listen to the videos and choose which one sounds better to you.  There are no right or wrong votes, unless you vote for someone not listed as a contender or don’t vote at all.

For those of you who may be interested in joining in our fun - The battles take place twice a month. Once on the 1st, and again on the 15th. 1. I'll have to say that tonight I'm in no mood for rollicking rock and roll (though Dead Bang dead a credible job with their version.

I'm a big string quartet fan so Stringspace gets my vote.

  2. UGHhhh!

Well, first and most importantly, MMQE, my friend, I am still praying to the One and Only God about your health each and every single day.

    Now . . . about this Battle . . . I will try to be kind . . .

I don't like the song to begin with. I used to like the song a lot, when I was, like, 15 and 16 and 17 years old, but then . . . I started to hear a lot of other music and . . . well . . .

Being as kind as I can possibly be, the best thing I can say about DEAD BANG (whom I never heard of before) is that they completely suck. There is not half of one ounce of originality to be found in them. They sound like an amalgamation of about 10 or 12 bands that came years (if not decades) before them. And I could say the same thing about pretty much every single musical *"artist"* of the last 3.5 decades. Just like humanity itself, art is dying and just doing nothing more than replicating itself until 2029 when, mercifully, Jesus is going to return and kick all the frauds out of here.

In a nutshell: DEAD BANG sux and are probably, rightfully, on welfare today.

I'll cast my vote for STRINGSPACE STRING QUARTET, not because I enjoyed their recording, but primarily because they aren't Dead Bang, whom I am probably supporting with my tax dollars.

Damn! I really wish a Doctor Frankenstein would come along and resurrect our Founding Fathers, who would immediately start American Revolution 2.0 in this decayed country.

MARY, my frieend . . . have a terrific day!
(Next time, I'll tell ya how I *REALLY* feel.)

    1. Ha Ha Ha! Sorry you didn't care for this one. Somehow I knew it was going to be a real dud. But... given the fact that I was still fighting pneumonia when I put it together, it has to be better than no battle at all, right? I wrote this one before my last hospital stay as I didn't know how I was going to feel when I got out, plus I had/have all those A2Z posts to write ... for 2 blogs! Thank you for the continued prayers, btw. Truly means a lot to me. I'd send you an 'E' with all the latest details, but.. I've developed pressure sores and am unable to sit for long periods of time. I am going to see wound care tomorrow. I hope I don't have to go too frequently, as they are located in that building full of sick people.

I need to start thinking about my battle on the 15th.

      >>... But... given the fact that I was still fighting pneumonia when I put it together, it has to be better than no battle at all, right?

Definitely RIGHT! Considering all the trouble you've had lately, I think you're doing a MAHHH-VEL-OUS job! (No, *really*!!)

      >>... I'd send you an 'E' with all the latest details, but.. I've developed pressure sores and am unable to sit for long periods of time.

Believe me, I do understand that life has become a real pain in the ass for all of us!

      >>... I need to start thinking about my battle on the 15th.

Actually, I think you need to think about reading those books I sent you (free-of-charge, out of the goodness of my Christian heart) and start 'religiously' eating those "nasty" apricot seeds.

I can 'E' you some selected pages to read from those two books, and I will do so, but ONLY if you promise to read them *IMMEDIATELY*. Even if that means *TEMPORARILY* setting aside 'Zen And The Art Of New Age B.S.'.

      Deal?

I believe I have an idea for the tune to use, just need to narrow down the contestants. You might even approve of this one!

Alright, Alright! I could possibly even find some time to lay down (as opposed to sitting down) to read your CA propaganda ;) I MAY even try to force some of those nasty apricot seeds down my throat. I wonder if I put them in cheese... like one does with dog pills... not that I'm a dog - although I've been called the female form of one plenty of times!

  3. Mary,

How are ya feeling, darlin'? I hope you're doing okay and staying indoors away from the virus threat. This battle is an easy pick for me. I'm going with the STRINGSPACE STRING QUARTET. Excellent contender for this round. You'll find my showdown in my first edition of Cathy's Pinup Girl A to Z Challenge Art Sketch Series today. Come join the fun, dear!

    1. Hi Cathy

I am avoiding people much more than normal lately. I was a bit worried when my new housekeeper was put in quarantine while she waited for her test results to come back. Thank goodness the test came back negative. But I did have her stay away for much longer than the quarantine time. Only had her come over because I was completely out of clean undies...

Thanks so much for stopping in with your vote!

  8. When I listen to Dead Bang, I immediately thought: Hey! It's Devo's lesser known cousin.

Seriously, I love the string version so much more. I've got a lot of string players in my crew. My youngest was in orchestra for quite a while; he plays the violin -- or he did until he got to college and moved on to bigger and better things, we hope

I hope you are well my friend! Stay healthy please, and God bless.

Dead Bang sure isn't getting much love this go around. I'm about to tally up the votes and slap together the results post :) Doing my best to stay above ground. Hope that you and yours are doing the same.
