#SundaySounds: An Introduction
Introducing: Sunday Sounds
The other day I was writing the last of the A2Z Challenge posts when this new idea came to me. Perhaps it’s because of social distancing or maybe even my latest health issues that I wanted to give this new theme day a try.
It’s my hope to be able to bring a little background information to the hymn, but I know that information is not always available so there may be times when I take a different route with the selected hymn for the day.
I’ll be sharing lyrics and background information as well as a video of the hymn so that you can sing along, or just give it a listen.
I understand that hymns or gospel songs may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but I’d still like for you to enjoy the posts as best you can. Who knows, there may be a time when something ‘just speaks to you’.
The song I chose for today is:
“There Is Sunshine In My Soul Today”
“There Is Sunshine In My Soul Today”
Lyrics by Eliza E. Hewitt, 1851–1920
Music by John R. Sweney, 1837–1899
There is sunshine in my soul today,
More glorious and bright
Than glows in any earthly sky,
For Jesus is my light.
[Refrain]
O there’s sunshine, blessed sunshine,
While the peaceful, happy moments roll;
When Jesus shows His smiling face
There is sunshine in my soul.
There is music in my soul today,
A carol to my King;
And Jesus, listening, can hear
The song I cannot sing.
There is springtime in my soul today,
For when the Lord is near
The dove of peace sings in my heart,
The flowers of grace appear.
There is gladness in my soul today,
And hope, and praise, and love,
For blessings which He gives me now,
For joys laid up above.
The reason I selected this song is I feel strongly that we should look for the positives in life and share the positivity with others, no matter what our circumstances may be.
I am always open to suggestions for songs to be used, as well as other suggestions you might have for the blog. If you would rather not share that info in the comments, you may email your suggestions.
Woo-Hoo! First ever to comment!!

I dig your new Sunday Sounds idea!
There is sunshine in your soul today,
. . . and hopefully,
There is Apricot Seeds in your gut today!
I had to chuckle a bit while listening to today's song selection. It immediately reminded me of the moment in this video...
[Link> Dr. Michael Brown (Ask Dr. Brown) - Testimony
. . . where he compares the heavy metal music he loved (e.g., Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, etc.) with the sing-songy music found in Christian churches. Such as 'There Is Sunshine In My Soul Today' - which he actually starts to sing a bit of. What a hoot that you began this new blog tradition with this song.
Definitely check out that video. I love the guy's enthusiasm!

Yes, it is. Just a little less preaching, and a whole lot more social distancing :) Thanks for stopping by! Sorry I haven't been around much, I haven't been feeling well.
