#RMF2020: The Twist

 

Day 4 of #RocktoberMusicFest2020

This year for RocktoberMusicFest, I thought I would take us on a journey through Rock Music. The idea was inspired by my ThrowBack Thursday theme.

Starting with the 50’s, each week will represent a decade in Rock. As there are only 7 days in a week and there are 10 years in a decade, there will be quite a few songs overlooked. Don’t fret - I’m sure I’ll get those covered at some point in a Throwback Thursday post.

The idea behind RocktoberMusicFest is to celebrate Rock and Roll. It’s my hope that between my posts and yours that we will get to enjoy many of the different subgenres of rock.

The concept of this bloghop is to have a lot of fun and enjoy a lot of music. As rock and roll is known for breaking rules, I’ve left the rules of this hop wide open and quite simply this:  Post when you can. You can post once, or join in every day. The only hard and fast rule is that your post contains rock music. Each day you will be invited to include your link in the comments of this blog. Please take a moment to visit those that have included their links in the comments. I’ll be doing my part to combat spam by removing links that are not part of the hop.

The Song choice for today: The Twist

Wikipedia tells us this about the song:
"The Twist" is an American pop song written and originally released in 1958 by Hank Ballard and the Midnighters as a B-side to "Teardrops on Your Letter". Ballard's version was a moderate hit, peaking at number 28 on the Billboard Hot 100. On the US Billboard, Hot R&B Sides chart, the original version of "The Twist" first peaked at number sixteen in 1959 and at number six in 1960.

Chubby Checker's 1960 cover version of the song gave birth to the Twist dance craze. His single became a hit, reaching number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 on September 19, 1960, where it stayed for one week, and setting a record as the only song to reach number 1 in two different hit parade runs when it resurfaced and topped the popular hit parade again for two weeks starting on January 13, 1962.

In 1988, "The Twist" again became popular due to a new recording of the song by The Fat Boys featuring Chubby Checker. This version reached number 2 in the United Kingdom and number 1 in Germany. In 2014, Billboard magazine declared the song the "biggest hit" of the 1960s.
