Holiday Countdown 16-20

Aww… December.  The month where no matter where you go, there is little escaping the sounds of the Christmas holiday.  So why should this blog be of any exception?

Xmas Dolly, our fearless leader of Monday’s Music Moves Me, has declared this month to be dedicated to Christmas Music.

I’m using a source and will be doing a countdown of the top 20 tunes of Christmas.

Well, alrighty then… Let’s get to it!

Please enjoy this week’s playlist:

    20. 'That's Christmas to Me': Pentatonix (2014)

In 2014 a capella group Pentatonix released their first full-length holiday album, "That's Christmas to Me." It included their versions of Christmas classics, except for the title cut, which was a new original holiday song.

    19. 'The Chanukah Song': Adam Sandler (1994)

Comedian Adam Sandler created an instant novelty classic in "The Chanukah Song" that strings together a wide range of celebrities and public figures who are Jewish—and some who are not.

    18. 'Silent Night': Jackie Evancho (2010)

It is believed that "Silent Night" was first composed in German in 1816. The song was later translated into English and sung by both sides in the World War I Christmas truce due to the fact it was the primary Christmas carol that both German and British soldiers knew. Child operatic singer Jackie Evancho included the carol on her holiday collection "O Holy Night."

    17. 'Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)': U2 (1987)

"Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)" was first recorded by Darlene Love in 1963 for the legendary Phil Spector album "A Christmas Gift for You from Phil Spector." U2 put together their cover of the song for the 1987 Special Olympics benefit album, "A Very Special Christmas."

    16. 'Jingle Bells': Diana Krall (2005)

"Jingle Bells" was first copyrighted under the title "One Horse Open Sleigh" in 1857. It became one of the most popular of secular Christmas songs around the world. Jazz singer Diana Krall included "Jingle Bells" in her 2005 album "Christmas Songs."

Be sure to come back next week for Top Christmas Tunes 11-15.  I also want to extend an invite to join me on Wednesdays beginning in January, for a weekly song challenge. Take a look at this week’s YouTube Roulette post (on Wednesday) for more details.

Today’s post is part of the Monday’s Music Moves Me blog hop, hosted by X-Mas Dolly, and co-hosted by Stacy Uncorked, Curious as a Cathy. , and Ramblin with AM. Be sure to stop by the hosts and visit the other participants.  If you have a MUSIC* post, feel free to join in the fun! *sorry non-music posts are not permitted in this blog hop.

  1. Oh Lordy, I love this time of year with all the great feel good tunes, and you sure have a bushel of fun here. What a great tune to open with too my friend. I totally love this group Pentatonix I guess because I really love harmony too! Adam Sandler will always be a hoot that's for sure & Jackie Evancho really grew up to be a very beautiful woman with the voice to match. Great job here today girlfriend. It's getting late so I bid you a very Merry Christmas season. hugs

  3. Mary,

There's nothing like celebrating this joyous Christmas season than with mewsic! I believe Driller's Place shared Pentatonix's "This Is Christmas To Me" recently not only speaking to my heart but touching it sweetly. I enjoyed all of your selections this morning as I did other things. Thanks for sharing on the dance floor, darlin'. Have a very Merry Christmas!

  4. A very interesting (and enjoyable) countdown. From the angelic voice of Jackie Evancho (yes, I remember her from America's Got Talent) to Diana Krall, to U2 (and hurray for Adam Sandler), this brought out the Christmas spirit in me.
