#Roadtrip: Indianapolis

Time to hit the road!

The premise behind this theme is to pick a location, and highlight some or all of the musical artists (not inclusive) that are associated with that location. The locations will not be limited to the continental United States. We’re going Everywhere!

Today we’re making a stop in Indianapolis, Indiana. Home of the Indianapolis 500, The Colts, and the Pacers. Also home to some pretty decent music.

Today’s Roadtrip Playlist:

  1. John Hiatt - singer-songwriter and musician. He has played a variety of musical styles on his albums, including new wave, blues, and country. Hiatt has been nominated for nine Grammy Awards and has been awarded a variety of other distinctions in the music industry. Today’s Song Choice: Feels Like Rain

  2. Adam Lambert - rose to fame in 2009 after finishing as runner-up on the eighth season of American Idol. He has since performed with musical group Queen, as well as a solo career. Today’s Song Choice: Ghost Town

  3. Billy Henderson - founder of The Spinners. While the group was formed in Michigan, Billy was born in Indianapolis, and such makes him a special guest for today’s lineup. Today’s Song Choice: I’ll Be Around

  4. Babyface - Singer/Songwriter/Producer. He has written and produced over 26 number-one R&B hits throughout his career, and has won 11 Grammy Awards. He was ranked number 20 on NME's 50 of The Greatest Producers Ever list. Today’s Song Choice: Every Time I Close My Eyes

  5. The Four Freshmen - The group was founded in 1948 in Indiana and reached its peak popularity in the mid-1950s. The last original member retired in 1993, but the group stills tours internationally and has recorded jazz harmonies since its late 1940s founding in the halls of the Jordan School of Music at Butler University in Indianapolis. Today’s Song Choice: Graduation Day

I’m trying to keep the playlists to 5 tunes each, so if you know of an artist associated with the location that was not featured, be sure to mention them in the comments. There’s always a good chance we’ll be re-visiting locations.  I’m also open to suggestions for locations.  In the meantime, I’m just meandering around the continent.

See you again soon!

  1. I didn't really appreciate John Hiatt until I saw him open for Robert Cray at the Fox Theater. At the time "Bring The Family" had just come out. Naturally, I went out and bought it...
