Glenn Miller

This month, Marie gets to choose our themes.

Today Marie wants to wish her mother a happy birthday with songs from Dean Martin, Glenn Miller, and Frank Sinatra.

I’ve decided to fill my playlist solely with tunes from Glenn Miller.

Alton Glenn Miller was an American big-band trombonist, arranger, composer, and bandleader in the swing era. He was the best-selling recording artist from 1939 to 1942, leading one of the best-known big bands. Miller's recordings include "In the Mood", "Moonlight Serenade", "Pennsylvania 6-5000", "Chattanooga Choo Choo", "A String of Pearls String of Pearls", "At Last", Kalamazoo", "American Patrol", "Tuxedo Junction", "Elmer's Tune", "Little Brown Jug" and Anvil Chorus In just four years Glenn Miller scored 16 number-one records and 69 top ten hits—more than Elvis Presley and the Beatles did in their careers.

As Glenn Miller’s musical career soared, he traded in his commercial success for a military uniform to entertain US troops during World War II. Then, on a foggy afternoon, December 15, 1944, he took off from England heading for France. His plane vanished over the English Channel. Glenn Miller was never seen again.

Today’s Playlist

  1. In The Mood

  2. Chattanooga Choo Choo

  3. Moonlight Serenade

  4. (I’ve Got A Gal In) Kalamazoo

  5. Perfidia

Wishing Marie’s momma a very happy birthday!

  1. Mary,

Your first two picks, I also used in my line up today. I love the big band sound. Miller had that swingin' vibe going in most of his music, too. Great music from the greatest generation the world will ever know!! Thanks for sharing and for joining the 4M gang on the dance floor, my dear!

  2. Great choice in Glen Miller Tunes, but the dance sequence in Kalamazoo is beyond amazing. I love the swing era when dance scenes like that were included in many movies. Have a blessed week.

  4. You picked some good songs here! I think focusing on one of the artists was a good idea. And "Perfidia" was brilliant!
