Posthumous Petty
Today is Free Choice day at Monday’s Music Moves Me. I think it’s time for another Under the Influence post.
As it seems to be the case lately, this one was brought to my attention via The Cute One. It’s also brought to us because of the recent HOT weather we are having.
According to Rolling Stone Magazine:
This year marks the 25th anniversary of the 1996 Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers album Songs and Music From She’s the One, and his estate is celebrating with the release of a reimagined version of the LP they’re calling Angel Dream (Songs and Music from the Motion Picture She’s the One).
The album is coming out first on limited-edition cobalt blue vinyl for Record Store Day on June 12th, and will be released on CD, digital, and black vinyl on July 2nd. A visualizer video for “Angel Dream (No. 2)” dropped Thursday.
Many of the songs from the original album were written for the 1996 Ed Burns movie She’s the One, although several date back to the Wildflowers sessions. The 2020 Wildflowers and All the Rest box brought those songs back, and this new edition of She’s the One has four additional songs from the period: “One of Life’s Little Mysteries,” “Thirteen Days”, “105 Degrees,” and “French Disconnection.” There’s also an extended edition of “Supernatural Radio.”
Wikipedia adds:
In early 2021 it was announced that a record store day release of this album would completely rework it, resulting in it being renamed to Angel Dream. This version of the album takes off the tracks that were from the Wildflowers sessions (the ones added to the Wildflowers and All the Rest deluxe album) and replaces them with previously unreleased bonus tracks. These tracks include "105 Degrees" and "One of Life's Little Mysteries", both written by Petty, as well as a cover of J. J. Cale's "Thirteen Days" and the instrumental "French Disconnection".
Here’s the songs from the Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers album 'Angel Dream (Songs and Music from the Motion Picture "She's the One")': (released May 17, 2021) In no particular order
French Disconnection
Supernatural Radio
Climb That Hill
105 Degrees
Thirteen Days
Walls No 3
Zero From Outer Space
Change The Locks
Grew Up Fast
Angel Dream (No 2)
Asshole
One of Life's Little Mysteries

Nice post. I like Tom Petty.
ReplyDeleteI was shocked when he passed away. I'm still shocked. I did enjoy listening to these songs. It just reminds me why buying and album or cd is still so important. You get to listen to other songs that are just as good as the popular ones.
ReplyDeleteYou ROCK Girlfriend! How ya be? Great I hope. What great tunes you have chosen today. Thanks for sharing. I'm still trying to find a blog I understand and can do. I'm such a boob sometimes. Oh well I'm sure I'll find something. I love this piece you've chosen today. Some really great listening music. Have a great day. Stay well, and stay happy! HUGS
ReplyDeleteMary,
ReplyDeletePetty had some good hits. None of these songs have ever made it to my ears before now. Tell TCO thanks for calling it to your attention so you could share it with us on the dance floor. Have a boogietastic week!
"Asshole"... I love it!
ReplyDeleteVery nice selection. I miss Tom Petty. I did not know the vast majority of these songs.
