Kiss You All Over Battle

While everyone is busy trying to come up with holiday tunes, I’m taking a bit of a different route.

Holidays are about nostalgia, right? So let’s take a walk down memory lane…

Picture it… Sicily 1928… wait, no! Not THAT far back!

Okay… Picture this: It’s 1978. I’m about 12 years old, and my family has an exchange student living with us. This exchange student was not from another country, but from a reservation in another state. The exchange student is the same age as myself, and has the same taste in music. Every few weeks, she would call home collect and that was how she chose to stay in touch with her family.

On one such day that she has chosen to call her family, this song comes on the radio. Naturally, she’s singing along… and dials 0 for the operator… who hears on his end of the line “I Wanna Kiss You All Overrrrr and Overrrr Again”  The operator responds with “Excuse Me?!?”   Mortified pre-teen girl hangs up on the operator.  We had a good giggle over that and for some reason this memory has stayed with me and every time I hear this song, I remember this and smile.

I believe I have found two worthy contenders for our song today.

The first contender is Trace Adkins

Second Contender: No Mercy

In the event that you are new here, or you have simply forgotten… Here’s a review of how a battle works:

  1. Listen to each of the contenders. Try not to be persuaded by the videos. I like to close my eyes and let the music transport me.

  2. Pick the contender that you prefer the most

  3. Leave a comment with the name of the contender you have chosen. Feel free to expound upon your choice.

  4. Visit the other bloggers that have battles taking place. Their battles are different from each other, so be sure to check them out.  *I think this is a recent list, if not, Cathy keeps a current list on her battle posts.

    1. Stephen McCarthy (out of retirement!)

    2. Tossing It Out

    3. Mike’s Ramblings

    4. The Sound of One Hand Typing

    5. Curious As A Cathy

Alright now… Cast your votes in the comments!

Voting results will be posted on December 8!

  1. Mary,

You had me giggling over your memory of this song. I had no clue anyone covered "Kiss Me All Over" much less a country artist like Trace Adkins. Who's that singing with Trace? Oh, snap that's Exile! WOW - great job! Now, let me listen to the next contender. No Mercy did a fabulous job. I loved the latin guitar feel of the song and it really made me wanna dance but honestly in the end it was Trace's buttery, barton vocals with Exile's harmonies that did it for me. I'm casting my vote for TRACE ADKINS in this battle. Well played, my friend. Come vote in my BOTB when you get a chance

  2. Funny story about the song.

This song brings back memories for me as well. Loved this song! When it came out I was married to my first wife. Sometimes I would sing this song to her and I'm not sure why but she would get kind of irritated. She didn't like the song as well as I did, but still I would have thought she would have been flattered for me to sing it to her. Maybe she didn't like my voice. But she didn't like hearing the song on the radio either. Guess whatever it was about the song will remain a mystery to me.

There was something about the second version that trivialized the presentation for me. Too bouncy or something. I much preferred the version by Trace.

My vote goes to Trace Adkins.

Ha!-Ha! I liked your little story, and I can certainly see how every time you've heard this song since that day it has always reminded you of your new friend singing to the phone operator. (It'll probably do the same thing to me... from now on.)

OK, frankly, this song got played to death on the radio. Unfortunately, I never really liked it much so... it was like a form of torture for about a year.

BUT!... the goot newts is that Trace Adkins does this well. His deep voice kind of fixes it. As does the Country touch rather than the original Disco touch. (By the way, it's now 2021 and... Disco *STILL* sucks!!)

No Mercy? Eh... sounded like Disco with a Spanish splash to me.

TRACE ADKINS wins my vote... and by much more than just a "trace".

Mary, Mary, Quite Extraordinary, have yourself a merry little Christmas! (Or else bring a note from your doctor.)

  4. I'm with McCarthy on this one: the original was overplayed, disco still sucks, and Trace's deep voice and country flare wins this one. I hate not having an original thought for a rare stop over on the blog... but sadly, I did NOT have one. McCarthy was 100% right and got here first. I am glad I did, thought, because I enjoyed the story about the song!

  5. I like No Mercy, surprisingly. It has that typical beat but I like the Spanish flair to it and it's a new rendering to this song so they get my vote.

  6. I really did not like the Trace Adkins version: it dragged and there were a bunch of other singers that I don't know singing with him. I really liked the No Mercy version, particularly the guitar work. No Mercy for me...
