August Battle, June Battle Results

So much for staying on track. Looking back at my latest posts, I haven’t posted the winners of the June Battle, and I didn’t post a battle for July. I really dropped the ball.  The good news is we are making slow, steady progress at kicking cancer’s butt.

A quick recap of the June Battle:

The song being battled was ‘People are Strange’. We had three contenders and right out the gate it was a three way tie. But then 3 more voters came along and that helped seal the deal.

The Dead South had 3 votes

The MonaLisa Twins had 1 vote

    Leo Moracchioli had 2 votes

I was chatting with Mr Stephen T and I mentioned that I had 2 battles to choose from for this month's battle. But after revisiting the June battle, I realized that one of those battles was very similar to the June battle, so that just leaves me with this one. Oh sure, I have a spreadsheet of songs and titles to use in future battles, but NOTHING is jumping out at me and demanding I choose them. So that leaves me with this ONE battle for August.

This battle is inspired by a post I saw on Facebook a few months ago.  More on that in the results post.

Today’s battle is ONE title, but 3 different songs (and 5 different vocalists!) Please listen to each of the songs before casting your vote for the ONE you like best. Each ONE has something different to offer.

The first contender is U2

Our second contender is Metallica

Our third contender is Three Dog Night

In the event that you are new here, or you have simply forgotten… Here’s a review of how a battle works:

  1. Listen to each of the contenders. Try not to be persuaded by the videos. I like to close my eyes and let the music transport me.

  2. Pick the contender that you prefer the most

  3. Leave a comment with the name of the contender you have chosen. Feel free to expound upon your choice.

  4. Visit the other bloggers that have battles taking place. Their battles are different from each other, so be sure to check them out.  *I think this is a recent list, if not, Cathy keeps a current list on her battle posts.

    1. Stephen McCarthy

    2. Tossing It Out

    3. Mike’s Ramblings

    4. The Sound of One Hand Typing

    5. Curious As A Cathy

Alright now… Cast your votes in the comments! Be sure to share this post with your friends. Even though I missed a month, the votes have been rather thin for several months.

  1. Glad you're dealing with your situation successfully. I haven't been posting much more than you have, but for different reasons. One being that I've been terribly lazy and listless over the past weeks and months, but not so much due to any sickness I think. However I did have a brief bout with COVID a few weeks ago. Nothing for me to get upset about though. If I hadn't gotten tested with positive results I might have never guessed that I had anything but a minor cold. Oh, and major ennui. Keep up your fight! You can do it!

I'm pretty sure I can guess which song Stephen T will pick since I've heard his opinions about Bono and I doubt that he cares much for Metallica. I do like the songs by U2 and Metallica and have albums by both groups. However, Three Dog Night holds a special place in my musical memories and I think their song is better overall.

For me it's Three Dog Night's "One".

  2. Hey Mary,

I was happy to read you're kicking cancer in the behind. I'm trusting this demon departs your body for good, so you can get back to enjoying life. You're in my prayers always, good friend!

As far as I'm concerned there are two contenders in this battle. The first and the last songs. I couldn't get into Metallica's song. I remember U2's song but I don't think I knew it was them doing it. Three Dog Night is a great classic 70s band which means, I think I've gotta give my vote to one of my favorite bands of my youth.

My battle is up here. There's no obligation but just know you're welcome to link your showdown on the 4M linky party if you want. Take it easy, girlfriend!

  3. Long time, no see! I'm happy to hear you have cancer on the run. I vote for Three Dog Night. I'm a child of the '60's and '70's.

  4. MMQE ~

You done this Battle all wrong! Your theme is "one" and you gave us this to choose from:
    'One' - U2
    'One' - Metallica
    'One' - Three Dog Night

Granted, my math sucks, but I'm still pert-dern sure that
    'One' + 'One' + 'One' = 3

I think that in order to keep this Battle thematically correct, you should have given us just ONE song title 'One' to choose from. And you should have told us that our options were to either A) vote for the ONE song titled 'One' or B) not vote at all.

How is it that after all these years I still have to teach you how to play BOTB?!?!

U2? Look, don't even get me started!!

    My BOTB bote?

  5. "One" by U2 won hands down. Strangely, I thought I had heard Metallica's "One" before and don't remember the talking here and there during the song. I found it quite distracting, but, for all I know, it is part of the song. I love Three Dog Night but, for whatever reason, this isn't one of my favorite songs of theirs.
