Call Me Battle, Round 2

The Call Me Battle is off to a good start!

I’m really enjoying the feedback of this type of battle, so keep it coming (along with the votes!)

I originally thought I would start with 2 songs, then do another round of 2 more songs with the third month being a battle of the winners from the previous 2 months.  However,  it turns out there are quite a few songs out there with telephone numbers in them and it can be tedious to keep up.

So, I’ve come up with a new plan. Each month will have the winner from the previous month competing against a new song.  And not to worry, while I may toss in a few ‘deep cuts’ now and then, most of the songs will be familiar or somewhat familiar to you (hopefully).

Once we work our way through the telephone number songs, we’ll move on to songs with telephones or telephone calls.

So, Rikki, don’t be losing these numbers, and Call Me!

Round #2, Contender #1 The Marvelettes

Round #2, Contender #2 Glenn Miller

In the event that you are new here, or you have simply forgotten… Here’s a review of how a battle works:

  1. Listen to each of the contenders. Try not to be persuaded by the videos. I like to close my eyes and let the music transport me. Keep an open mind and don’t be persuaded by the artist name.

  2. Pick the contender that you prefer the most

  3. Leave a comment with the name of the contender you have chosen. Feel free to expound upon your choice.

  4. Visit the other bloggers that have battles taking place. Their battles are different from each other, so be sure to check them out.

  1. Stephen McCarthy
  2. Tossing It Out
  3. Mike’s Ramblings
  4. The Sound of One Hand Typing
  5. Curious As A Cathy
  6. dIEDRE’s Stream Pebbles

Alright now… Cast your votes in the comments! Voting Results will be posted on the 8th of this month.

Thank you again for the battle suggestion, Stephen T!

  1. Hey Mary!

Are you and Stephen getting together with y'alls battles? This isn't the first time you guys have managed to use the same artist. I believe it's more than a mere coincidence if you ask me. :D Alrighty, now in this showdown I liked both songs quite a bit so I just went with the one that moved me more. I'm giving my vote to Glenn Miller. Great battle!

Skyfall BOTB Showdown now playing on CAAC!

  2. Oh, I must go with Glen Miller and that horn and the great band.

  3. I wasn't thrilled with the Marvellettes song the first time around and this time it seemed even more jangly harsh than last time.

The Glenn Miller song is an old chestnut that I've heard often through the years. Not my favorite Miller song, but it's a fun one with its tuneful ditty and the shout out from the band.

Between these two I've got to go with Glenn Miller's phone number song.

"Hokey-Smoke & Hoo-Wee!" (as Rocket J. Squirrel & Deputy Dawg would say). It sounds like you are expanding this concept into something that will take you through the Tribulation & the Second Coming of Christ Yeshua. "Not that there's anything wrong with that" (as everyone on Seinfeld would say).

Well, 'Beechwood 4-5789' is definitely earwormy. But in Round 1, I voted for my wife, Brenda Lee, over The Marvelettes. And in Round 2, I'm voting for the GLENN MILLER ORCHESTRA over The Marvelettes. Wow! What a terrific orchestra and such a toe-tappin' tune. The Marvelettes will likely win again (since I'm voting for their opposition), but I can tell you right now that I'll probably be voting for Glenn Miller for as long as he's eligible to receive my votes. (I would have voted for Glenn over Brenda Lee, too. But don't tell her I said that!)

My brother, Judge Al Bondigas, just gave a listen to your Round 2 Battle and he is submitting a vote for THE MARVELETTES, thus canceling out my earlier vote for Glenn Miller. (Nappy always has been a punk, ever since the very first day I met him!)

  6. Hi Mary!
There's so much to like about Glenn Miller, but I'm sticking with the Marvelettes ;-)

  7. I'll show The Marvelettes some love. I've always liked that song...

  8. Glenn Miller reminds me of my dad. My dad loves the Big Band era.
