Welcome back to the Call Me! Battles….
These are songs that mention phone numbers either in the title or the lyrics.
Just a quick recap of this battle series so far:
October: The Marvelettes took on Brenda Lee, and The Marvelettes won that battle.
November: The Marvelettes took on Glenn Miller. It was a tight race, but Glenn Miller took the win!
December: Glenn Miller took on Tom Waits and maintained his hold in first place.
January: We took a little break in the series for a special Tiny Tim battle
February: Glenn Miller took on Wilson Pickett and it was extremely close. I broke the tie and Wilson Pickett won
March: Wilson Pickett took on the B52s, and won 2 to 1.
April: We took another break for a special April Fools battle
Here we are in May and we have Wilson Pickett taking on a new contender.
So let’s get right to it!
Wilson Pickett
Squeeze
Will Wilson Pickett hold his title for another month or will we have a new title holder?
In the event that you are new here, or you have simply forgotten… Here’s a review of how a battle works:
Listen to each of the contenders. Try not to be persuaded by the videos. I like to close my eyes and let the music transport me. Keep an open mind and don’t be persuaded by the artist name.
Pick the contender that you prefer the most
Leave a comment with the name of the contender you have chosen. Feel free to expound upon your choice.
Visit the other bloggers that have battles taking place. Their battles are different from each other, so be sure to check them out.
Alright now… Cast your votes in the comments! Voting Results will be posted on the 8th of this month.
Mary,
ReplyDeleteI'm going with WILSON PICKETT, simply because 634-5789 is just better overall. The vocals and melody are more enjoyable. Squeeze is too contemporary and not nearly as original sounding. Cool battle match up! Feel free to link your battle up with the 4M party, my dear. Have a bandtastic day!
A Song for You BOTB Showdown
I like them both! But I gotta go with Cathy on this one, WILSON PICKETT ultimately gets my vote. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm also for Miller...oops he's not in the running anymore:)). I go for Pickett which just sounds nicer to me
ReplyDeleteIn the late eighties & early nineties I was on a big Squeeze kick. Loved the group and went to see them at a Hollywood club even. Great group with dynamite songs. It's nice to hear them again.
ReplyDeleteI vote for Squeeze.

ReplyDeleteWhere have you been? I've been watching my Email InBox and waiting these last 7 days to see if you were going to post a Battle today, and if you didn't, I was going to dial 9-1-1.
Considering that Squeeze is from that era that killed off Pop music, their song wasn't bad. Better'n I expected. But I got Soul in my soul, so of course I'm voting for WILSON PICKETT.
My brother, Judge Al Bondigas, is also ruling for PICKETT because he's got a Soulful courtroom.

Pickett's song is a classic (as is Pickett). Nevertheless, the Squeeze song was kind of refreshing, so I'll go with them this time.
ReplyDeleteWilson Pickett's song is a classic I've heard many times, and the Squeeze song was new to me. This was harder than I would have thought. I can't believe I am not voting for Pickett but today I am casting a vote for....Squeeze.
ReplyDeleteI have to go with the soul man, Wilson Pickett. Squeeze was light and breezy, but I prefer the classics.
ReplyDeleteHi, Mary. Sure hope you're feeling better. Another terrific battle featuring Wilson's unique tenacity ;-) For that reason alone, I should vote for him. But I really liked Squeeze a lot more. A vote for Squeeze, please.
