Rocktober 8, 2023

Rocktober 8th!

Holy Smokes! We’ve been at this for a full week now. Are you having a good time?

Today our song is: Bat Out Of Hell by Meat Loaf

Wikipedia tells us this about the song:

"Bat Out of Hell" is a song written by Jim Steinman, for the 1977 album Bat Out of Hell and performed by Meat Loaf. In Australia, the song was picked as the second single from the album in May 1978, accompanied by a music video. In January 1979, the song was released as a single in the UK and other European countries, and re-released in 1993.

Like most songs on the album, the song was written about Peter Pan and the Neverland story. Steinman had intended for the song to appear on "a rock 'n roll sci-fi version of Peter Pan". Steinman finally completed the musical (which he started writing in 1968) in 2017.

The song was also inspired by teenage tragedy songs such as "Leader of the Pack", "Terry" and "Tell Laura I Love Her", the latter being the first single Jim Steinman had ever bought. Steinman wanted to write the "most extreme crash song of all time"

Just a reminder that the songs that I am bringing to you this month are based on some survey from some website (I don’t even recall where, so don’t ask) They had fans respond with their favorite Rock tunes, and these are the top 31(ish) I say ish because I out-voted one or two that I didn’t agree with in their ranking. We’re working our way up to the Number One spot.

Be sure to stop by tomorrow to see what is next on the list! Feel free to join in the fun. The more the merrier, I say!

  1. I had the Bat Out of Hell album. It was THE album the summer before I started college.

  2. Love this one and the entire album! ♥ I did not know the songs were based on Peter Pan. Fascinating tidbit, Mary!

  3. What Debbie said ;-) Awesome song! With "...a man in the shadows with a gun in his eye," this song could have been written yesterday.

  4. This was based on Peter Pan?? The porn version?? I had the album and loved every song but this
