Song of the Day Nov 6

November 6, 2023

Today our song is: Honeycomb by Jimmie Rodgers

Wikipedia tells us this about the song:

"Honeycomb" is a popular song written by Bob Merrill in 1954. The best-selling version was recorded by Jimmie Rodgers and charted at number one on the Billboard Top 100 in 1957. "Honeycomb" also reached number one on the R&B Best Sellers chart and number seven on the Country & Western Best Sellers in Stores chart. It became a gold record. The song is referenced in the McGuire Sisters hit song "Sugartime", in which the soloist sings the line "Just be my honeycomb" and the word "honeycomb" is echoed by the other sisters and the male chorus.

Enjoy!

  1. What a cute song! When I was a kid, I remembered my grandparents getting raw honey with the honeycomb and I always wanted the honeycomb to chew on...as long as no bees were trapped inside. :D Thanks for joining us on the dance floor, Mary!

  2. Boy, I remember this tune. My older brother use to play it on his stereo and sing to it all the time. My brother was a drummer, but played the acoustic too, and loved to sing. I miss him... oh well, thank you for bringing back wonderful memories for me. Have a great day!

  3. I just love this tune. I wonder if the cereal got the name from this song. It's fun and happy.
